The Firehouse is the only Sacramento area restaurant included on the list and joins other world-famous fine dining establishments such as The French Laundry in Yountville, The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena, Alinea in Chicago and Le Bernardin in New York.
The Firehouse has a renowned reputation for its wine vault that is home to a magnificent collection of very rare Californian and European wines as well as current labels and varietals. Passionately led by Wine Director, General Manager & Sommelier Mario Ortiz – who celebrated his 45th anniversary with the restaurant in July 2016 – The Firehouse continues to offer Northern California’s most extensive wine cellar with an impressive 2,100 selections and 16,000 bottles.
On The Firehouse’s edible fare side, the restaurant has been listed among both Sacramento and Northern California’s top dining establishments since it first opened in 1960. With a food focus of Refined Contemporary American in style, the restaurant sources ingredients locally and embraces seasonality.
The current menu was created by Chef Jay Veregge, Director of Culinary Operations for Harvego Restaurant Group, with collaboration provided by his culinary team.
Coming full circle by bringing both carefully crafted menus and award-winning wine together, The Firehouse offers a special Chef’s Tasting menu with seasonal offerings paired with wine choices to complement the unique flavors of each dish. This special Chef’s Tasting menu changes regularly with the seasons.
The Firehouse also hosts Wine Tasting Tuesdays, featuring a different highlight each week that will appeal to both new and seasoned pallets. Thoughtfully led by Ortiz, tastings are held from 5:30 to 6:30 and only costs $15. See the tasting schedule here.
