In being home to one of the nation’s freshest collections of local produce, Sacramento is keen to providing a bountiful selection of farmers’ market events, which feature a range of fresh fruit, agricultural produce and gourmet products on a year-round basis. As Sacramento lies among 1.5 million acres of farmland, Midtown Farmers Market and Downtown Certified Farmers’ Markets are among the most popular markets for locavores in the region.
Due to its consistent schedule each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Midtown Association’s Midtown Farmers Market is a local favorite with up to 90 farmer, grower, and vendor booths popped up each week on 20th Street, from J street to Kayak Alley. Perfectly timed for National Bike Month in May and presented in partnership with Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates – guests to the Midtown Farmers Market can enjoy a convenient bike valet, alongside the following:
- May 6 at 11 a.m. – Chef Demo with Patrick Mulvaney, owner of Mulvaney’s B&L
- May 13 – Second Saturdays with talented artisans offering hand-crafted specialty goods
- May 20 – Know Your Grow with hands-on food-related educational experiences
- May 20 – Scooter® the Spare the Air mascot will be on-site providing tips to reduce air pollution
For those more eager to visit a market on a weekday throughout summer, Certified Farmers’ Markets are open weekdays as a perfect lunchtime destination.
