In just a few weeks, a new genre of fans will be heading to Orange County to visit The Growlers’ fifth annual Beach Goth Fest at The Observatory Grounds on October 22 & 23.
Beach Goth has a reputation for its punk, rock and goth (hence, the name) vibe, which has been evolving over the years to a more diverse line-up that fits The Growler’s southern California grungy hipster vibe.
This year’s Beach Goth installment expanded the festival grounds with two music stages and their most stacked line-up to date. Bon Iver, James Blake, Justice and Grimes will be headliners, while Gucci Mane, RL Grime, Nicolas JAAR, XXYYXX, Trippy Turtle and more will be adding their sounds to the mix as supporting acts.
Saturday will have fans looking forward to a 90s throwback performance by TLC, fulfilling dreams of hearing “No Scrubs” live, while the notorious 2 Live Crew will be performing their infamous hits from the early 90s on Sunday.
However, one of the must-see performances of the weekend is looking to be Bon Iver, which is set to feature music from his recent album release, 22, a Million. Most recently, fans were treated with the song he did with his friend, Francis and the Lights (featuring Kanye West) called “Friends,” which received a beautiful treatment in the form of a simply-choreographed music video.
Fading from the nostalgic atmospheric vibes of Bon Iver, Sunday brings a much more upbeat vibe, with a a techno treat on Sunday from legendary French electronic duo, Justice. Hopefully fans will also get to hear new music from Los Angeles native RL Grime, who has been teasing hints of his upcoming sophomore album.
And last, but certainly not least, The Growlers will be playing sets each day of the festival as comedian Eric Andre hosts the weekend’s festivities alongside an eclectic set of acts, sure to please a diverse crowd.
