Inspired by the TED organization, best known for its short filmed lectures, TED Talks, TEDx is a global community of individuals who independently host Ted-like events in their local communities. The organizers behind TEDxUCDavis are a dedicated group of UC Davis students who share the belief that ideas, access to them, and the conversation they generate are important parts of any community.
TEDxUCDavis brings these TED-like ideas and conversations to the Mondavi Center stage with the hopes that the opportunity to engage with both the speakers and each other will create an educational and inspirational experience. The theme for the upcoming TEDxUCDavis is “Pause or Press Play”.
“Whether we intend to or not, we all decide on a theme that relates to own lives,” said Director of Marketing for the event, Shavika Singhe. “It relates to the transitional time that is college. Do you pause, hesitate and wonder if you should just stay where you are at, or jump in with two feet?”
The event will feature 10 speakers from an array of backgrounds and disciplines. Among them are Chef Ali Bouzari, UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi, Beer Chemistry Researcher Katy Benson, and student speaker Harley Litzelman. In addition to the lectures there will we be performances by Danzantes del Alma Folklorico Dance Troupe, and middle-eastern folk band, Jadoo. A complete list of speakers and their backgrounds can be found on the TEDxUCDavis website.
TEDxUCDavis will be held Sunday, May 4 from 1pm to 5pm at the Mondavi Center on the UC Davis Campus. Attendance is open to all to wish to come. Tickets ($35) can be purchased through the Mondavi Center’s website www.mondaviarts.org. Discounted rates available for UC Davis faculty, staff, and students.
