There are three kick-ass mud runs taking place in and around the city of Sacramento. The weekend of mud is upon us. Three obstacle mud runs in one weekend. Sacramento’s gone mud nuts. It’s time to get the running shoes out, call your buddies up and get your side wagers together.
Saturday, October 26, there are two competing runs that will be going at the same time. The Capitol Apocalypse 5K Zombie Run and the Spartan Beast.
The world’s going to come to an end with the Capitol Apocalypse 5K Zombie Run. Zombies will be out in full force at Sutter’s Landing Regional Park in downtown Sacramento in attempt to change the world. Watch out for biters. Proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Saturday’s second competition is the Spartan Beast, the 10K run from hell. Spartan Beast will take place at the beautiful Van Vleck Ranch on state Route 16 right outside of Rancho Murieta, a short 15-minute drive from Sacramento. No whiners or whimps allowed at this one.
Last year, more than 2,000 people came out to tame the beast in the driving rain. Hopefully Mother Nature will hold out on the rain this year.
Sunday, the Merrell Down & Dirty Obstacle Race is a 5K and 10K course with the Folsom Lake State Recreation area as the backdrop. Sponsored by Subaru, the Down & Dirty Obstacle Race is designed to take the body to the extremes of human capabilities while having fun.
Benefiting Operation Gratitude, Subaru and the Down & Dirty Obstacle series seek to help fill 100,000 care packages for “U.S. Service members deployed in hostile regions around the world.”
There still space if you want to race. It’s time to get the conversation started, get the ego pump out, come on out. Leave the words on the track, like coach use to say. Just pick your cause: the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,
our soldiers, or simply a good time.
It’s time to start stretching now. Put your money where your mouth is. Get out your all terrain running gear and come out to one of the three running events this weekend.
Here’s everything you need to know, it’s time to get off the couch and get muddy this weekend.
