With temperatures above 108 degrees today, taking a dip in the water at Discovery Park seemed like a good idea.
Around 2:30pm on the fourth of July, a 24 year old man did just that and never came back.
According to his father he was not a strong swimmer and he was not wearing a lifejacket.
Assistant Chief Scott Williams of Sacramento City Fire emphasized that the cold water temperature and currents can take you down.
Emergency responders searched in the water as well as from a helicopter and boats. There was heavy boat traffic on the river as the search took place.
Police and Sheriff boats from Yolo and Sacramento Counties equipped with sonar searched the area where the man went down. The sonar can ping out 15 feet to the sides and below. The water was not much deeper than this where the drowning occured.
The search was called off around 4:30pm.
