Sacramento’s little-known semi-pro soccer team, the Gold, looks to defend its home field Sunday at 7 p.m. as it faces-off with the San Francisco Stompers at River City High School in West Sacramento.
The Gold (1-0) look to break a three-points-a-piece tie with the Stompers (1-0) at the top of the National Premiere Soccer League West-Northern Conference standings after an opening week victory over the North Coast Tsunami 5-3 at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, Calif.
The Stompers, who are in their first season as part of the NPSL, are coming off a 1-0 victory over the Bay Area Ambassadors.
Formed by the late Richard Novoa and Ruben Mora in 2010, the Gold won the NPSL National Championship in their inaugural season.
Tickets can be purchased at the field for $5. Children under 6 years old and parking are free.
