Good article, Brandon! The Singing on the Steps event at the Capitol yesterday was great fun, despite the chilly breeze. Girl Scouts of the USA is a terrific organization and has been a positive influence for generations of girls-- I would venture to guess that a sizable percentage of the women who hold positions of power and responsibility in government, education, community activism, business and the arts were once Girl Scouts.

While I do love choral music, and the many other events I cover (often with my good friend and photographer extraordinaire Kati Garner), I plan to branch out and stretch my explorations even farther this year.
Thanks, Michelle, for a positive spin on the experience. It was disappointing that we did not get to sing (I'd been practicing the soprano part for days!). But the spirit behind the event was purely one of joy and goodwill, sharing of the gift of song. No harm was intended nor perpetrated by anyone.

I love the forum that Sacramento Press provides for lively, timely exchange of news and ideas. The comments from floydjr3 and MyQuest (above) are part of the joy of the Press. (Very clever, MyQuest!)

Keep singing, keep joy and goodwill in your hearts. Hallelujah!

Beautiful, serene and dreamy, the river area in the early morning reveals mysteries that we city-dwellers seldom see. Kati, your shots are terrific-- I may have to have that canal shot for my breakfast room wall. Thanks!

I'm very glad that Ollie has been rescued. I have always had rescue dogs and they are the most wonderful, loving companions I can imagine.

Readers, please consider making a regular donation to any of the many organizations that rescue homeless and abused animals-- $5 a month to an organization can make a huge difference to our helpless canine and feline friends.

One of my favorites is a clinic that treats the companions of homeless people-- often a dog is a homeless person's best or only friend, security, and unconditional love. Here's their info:

Mercer Pet Clinic
Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless is a 501(C)3 non-profit, student-operated organization providing free care for the animal companions of the homeless. The clinic meets one Saturday morning a month at Loaves and Fishes. (Phone: 530-752-1143)

Great pictures! It was a really fun event, despite the early rain that threatened to turn it into a "Slush Day"!! The kids had a great time, and the Census volunteers did a terrific job. Councilmember Hammond's staff is to be commended for putting on such a happy event for such a good cause.
