One minor detail in case someone is looking for their donut shop- I believe 10th Street is Downtown but it could be Southside or Northside- but it's not Midtown (which later stated).
The problem here is that if we don't give these students a chance to progress we will only add more problems in the future. With an education these students can provide to the economy rather than depend on it. We are talking about hard-working students who want to be independent and do things right. We can't blame them and instead of ignoring the issue or attacking it we should find innovative ways to help and prevent illegal immigration in the future. If there is a purpose in life it is about accomplishing our dreams and goals. If we deprive these students from getting an education it would be like killing them and creating pain to others. A life worth living is a life in which we as individuals can produce happiness to the greateast number of people.

The romantic nonsense about "a nation of immigrants" is a wretched attempt to deny Americans the ability to choose a sensible immigration policy for themselves, which is the duty of any nation, rather than just accept the particular bunch Apolonia Cortez wants in because they happen to share her race, language, or culture.

As for the claims that the illegal aliens take the jobs that Americans will not do, that has an element of self-fulfilling prophecy to it, as the illegal aliens push down wages. Construction used to be a reasonably well paying job.

Of course, If you go to Oak Park or Del Paso Heights around Sacramento here, or any other California ghetto for that matter, and offer the able-bodied high-school dropouts minimum wage plus room, board, and transportation to and from the farms and fruit orchards of "Apple Hill", let alone the orange groves in the San Joaquin Valley for the season, they're going to sneer at you. They already get room, board, and some spending money just for sitting around with their friends and family, as well as any other money they can hustle up. They're making a rational economic decision.

The problem I have with those who spout off about "jobs spoiled Americans won't do" is that when they say that, they are sneering at those of us who *have* worked to get skills and/or education to do more than pick fruit. If they really *believed* that rhetoric, they would be changing welfare benefit structures and shaming the underclass so that their rational economic decision is not to sit around getting high all day.

(And of course, it's called "racist" to ask able bodied mostly African American Oak Park dwellers to move a short drive out of town to pick fruit, but it's somehow not racist to expect mostly illegally-entrant Mexicans to move a thousand miles or more to pick said fruit).

But let us address the specific provisions of the "DREAM" (sic) Act, rather than just go into illegal migration in general.

"It’s getting harder and harder for students to find, apply for and pay for good education." And indeed it is. Bringing in more student bodies, especially ones who should not be here, has a lot to do with that.

Moreover, even where the students are serious academically (and a good many "Bogus Studies" majors are NOT), which White or Asian or Black or Native American or LEGAL Mexican American students are crowded out, shoved aside, and having scarce financial aid taken away from them, in order to make room for these "Dream" students? Because that is what is happening, like it or not.

Given this issue, I fully expect dishonest and nauseating race-baiting to follow. Yet, Asian-Americans are frustrated that their relatives, some of whom already have doctorate degrees, wait years to emigrate and study legally, while thousands of illegal "Dream" students simply break the law to enter the United States across the Mexican border.

That is self-serving propaganda. Yes, illegals do get services. The can get WIC if they are pregnant. they can get free childcare, regardless of status. They get free education for their kids, and free school lunches for them regardless of status. I could go on here, but I'm not because I've spelled this out on our own media more times than I care to count. An illegal working here is not a badge of honor. It's a crime. They are not contributing to "the economy". they are contributing to the corruption in our economy. We have a national unemployment rate over 9%, and the state's is 12%, and that would show much worse if it counted all the self-employed people who have been displaced by illegals working for unlicensed businesses who are not reporting wages and/or taxes. No thanks; An above board economy and government doesn't count cheaters and corruption as a contribution

To Davi Rodrigues and Nicole Head please do some research and educate yourselves before writing your opinions publicly. Nicole, undocumented people pay taxes and get nothing in return, unlike citizens. They are a part of this economy just like you and me. On the topic of the “free stuff” they are getting. Please give me a list I would like to know, because when my family was undocumented we were not getting any “free stuff.” A lot of the food banks and place that help people through tough times are now requiring proof of citizenship, so please tell me where these places that are giving out “free stuff” are at.
Davi, your lack of understanding of your own history is appalling. So here we go a history lesson for you and anyone who thinks like you. People say that the United States is a “nation of immigrants” because Americans came from Great Britain to escape oppression, so Americans are immigrants. Even Native tribes migrated from other places to the United States.
To both of you we were lucky enough to be born in this great country but some people where not and they deserve the perks that come along with being a resident or a citizen. The majority of undocumented are WORKING people they do not take anything for granted. They do the jobs that neither you nor I would like to do, such as cleaning houses, field work, and any other manual labor job. The undocumented community feeds this economy, so do not dismiss them as uneducated and lazy. Do not forget what this great nation stands for and that is equality for all!

the DREAM act is a fraud being foisted upon America and California by a corrupt manipulative government, greedy business entities, and self-serving race hustlers. You notice how they use people purportedly who have been brought here when they were infants, but the act also covers the ones coming here only five years ago. In addition, they keep bringing up the issue of not punishing the kids for the parent's wrongs, but there's also no talk of punishing the parents at all. Instead, the parents will claim the legal status of their kids as a reason for their own deportation stays. If the act passes, there will all this wailing about splitting up the family. And I will call BS on this "nation of immigrants" propaganda. This nation went through periods of immigration, but that doesn't mean everyone is an immigrant, or that this country wasn't really built by Americans, and American born

We look forward to seeing your film Claire and the other nine films in the 12th annual 2011 PCS. We have always been a "family friendly film festival". Some filmmakers felt constrained and for several years I fumbled explaining why having nine year old boys and girls in the audience was important.

You are the reason. You and the other young people with dreams, confidence, and ambition. We want you in that theater. We want you to watch local films and look around. Every person in the Crest audience is involved in film making. They act, direct, produce, write, shoot, edit, location scout, manage craft services, offer their business for after-hours location shooting, or love people who do.

Sacramento is the place where film making dreams come true. That's not an exaggeration - just a statement of fact.

One other point. NAG does not take positions. NAG is set up only to be a place to exchange information. Part of its' design is to be a place where neighborhood association leadership and other interested individuals can hear from city staff and leadership and others in the community such as developers, business owners and others without going around to every neighborhood association and interest group in Area 1 (Downtown, Midtown and East Sac.).

Now individuals can ask questions and give feedback. Sometimes that may be strong feedback but as a whole NAG does not take a position on anything other that it is there to help create and maintain livable neighborhoods by having informed neighborhoods.

Correction: The City did not provide pizzas. For years and years members of the agenda committee solicited donated pizzas from numerous venues that had pizzas on their menus. At times NAG regular attendees donated pizzas. For two years pizzas were donated by SacPress. Excellent pizzas I might add. When SacPress management understandably found this becoming too expensive the agenda committee decided that NAG would not end if there wasn't any pizza.

Okay.... in a newspaper that trumpets local businesses, it features an article on one of several businesses (WalMart and Home Depot are others) that is directly responsible for closing down locally owned businesses. Starbucks is well known for letting a local owner spend years building a clientele and then moving in down the street. Result given the her mentality (including that of the reporter here) the local shop closes as everyone rushes to be the same.

Don't we send enough of our money to out of town mega-corps for Sacramento Press to be hawking for one of them?
