A Warm Reception at McClatchy High School for Anti-Gay Protester Fred Phelps

A small group of people started gathering in front of McClatchy High School today, at 3 o’clock, to show their support for gay rights. Among the group, were protesters who had gathered earlier at the capitol, students from neighboring schools, and the press.       It was nearing the scheduled time for the arrival of the notorious anti-gay protester, Fred Phelps and his clan, from the Westboro Baptist Church. They were scheduled to arrive at 3;15pm, according to their website godhatesfags.com.       The high school was ready with a dozen staff members standing guard in the front drive way. Citizens Rally to "Stop the Power Grab"

Sacramento citizens gathered, at the South Natomas Community Center, to oppose the proposed costly mayoral power grab. Joan Bryant, co-chair of the grass roots coalition "Stop the Power Grab", was joined by former Sacramento Mayor Anne Rudin, to speak to the crowd. "We are here today as a group of ordinary citizens who want to keep the doors of city hall open and accessible", said Rudin. "I applaud this group of citizens for coming together to do the right thing to stand against this." Conversation about: Plastic bag ban passes Sacramento city council committee

If we examine our everyday purchases, we can find plastic everywhere! Candy wrappers, coffee cup lids, aspirin bottles. It seems like everything is wrapped in plastic. This movement wants you to think that the vast amount of plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean is easily taxable consumables like plastic bags and water bottles. If you examine photos of the pollution you will see it is a lot of things. This is a "green washed" austerity measure. It starts with a 10 cent tax on grocery bags. Next they charge something for plastic water bottles. And, it really does very little to help the ocean.

Conversation about: Opinion re: City to vote on medical cannabis ordinance Jan. 29

The City and County need to block Feds from confiscating properties that are home to Cannabis dispensaries. State Law must be defended against the misguided tyranny of Federal pot laws. Let's not get crazy with overly restrictive zoning laws either. Cannabis dispensaries are a blessing to the community; not a danger. This is the green improvement that is needed on the K Street mall. Think of the big anchor stores, like Macy's, that are the glue that hold the malls together. Cannabis dispensaries would attract today's crowd. Smoking areas would need to be provided; perhaps on the rooftop? After medicating, there's nothing better than catching a movie, or discussing the origins of the Universe over snacks and peppermint tea. The cannabis economy is great for Sacramento and a future boom for California.
