More Zombie Madness from the Trash Film Orgy

If you're like a lot of people, Halloween is your favorite holiday, and what better way to get your Halloween week off to a rousing start than to see one of the goriest movies about Zombies ever made. Lucio Fulci's 1979 classic, "Zombie," is making its way to the big screen at The Crest Theatre for two screenings, Friday and Saturday, 21 - 22 October at Midnight.

When a young women travels to a remote tropical island in search of her missing father, all hell breaks loose when she and her companions find that a strange epidemic is causing the dead to walk…with an insatiable hunger for human flesh! This Undead classic features some of the most shocking scenes in horror cinema…don’t miss it on the Big Screen!

Brought to you by our local monster mavens at the Trash Film Orgy, this screening is fully remastered and uncut, featuring every classic scene from the original film.

Also at the show will be a zombie make-up table, so you can get your zombification, the Zombie Olympics, which will feature some fun and games. An onstage costume contest will feature fabulous prizes!

The doors open at 11pm, and if you are in an awesome costume, you can ask for the Zombie Discount.

Sacramento Mountain Lions Season Starting Saturday

Did you know Sacramento has a professional football team? That's right. The Sacramento Mountain Lions, one of the four United Football League teams (the other three being Las Vegas, Omaha, and Virginia) start their season this Saturday at CSUS Hornet Stadium. They face two-time champion Las Vegas Locomotives in what is sure to be an exciting opening game.

Rookie Sacramento quarterback, Ryan Coburn, looks like he has the potential to be a good quarterback, but the Vegas defense is powerful, and in the past four meetings Las Vegas defense picked off eight passes, and allowed only one touchdown pass. But Sacramento has new wide receiver, Reggie Willams, who played five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was a first-round draft selection. Williams caught 10 touchdown passes in the 2007 NFL season.

Also, look for running back Cory Ross, the UFL's all-time leading rusher and receiver. Aaron Woods, a return specialist who had last season's first punt-return touchdown of 60 yards. And defensive end Josh Savage, fourth in the UFL last season with 4 1/2 sacks.

On the Las Vegas side, look for Running back Dede Dorsey, the UFL second all-time leading rusher (742 yards) and third all-time leading receiver (46 catches). Linebacker Teddy Lehman is the UFL all-time leader in total tackles (104)... Punter Danny Baugher is the UFL all-time leader in gross punting average (44.2). So the Mountain Lions are going to have their hands full.

The opening season game is this Saturday, 17 September at 7:30pm, at CSUS Hornet Stadium.

For the Folks at the Trash Film Orgy, Season Draws to a Close

With the summer slowly winding down, midnight movies at the Crest Theatre are coming to a close, too. The zookeepers at the Trash Film Orgy film festival still have two Saturday night events before the end of this summer’s 11th festival season.

“Werewolves on Wheels,” probably the only biker-werewolf film ever made, will see its midnight screening this Saturday. The film can best be described as the love child between “Easy Rider” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” with some early reality film thrown in for good measure. It stars “Bud” Anderson and Barry “Eve of Destruction” McGuire.

If bikers who become blood-thirsty werewolves isn’t your bag, how about wrestling? Especially the luchadors in “Santo and Blue Demon vs. the Monsters.” Santo is a product of the Mexican wrestling industry and has made dozens of films over his career, which spanned from the 1950s to the early 1980s. “Santo” will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles.

Earlier films this season included “Return of the Living Dead,” “Humanoids from the Deep,” “Heavy Metal” and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Each night's screening includes fun and games in the Crest's lobby, live stage shows before each film and a fun, bizarre mix of video clips and trailers leading up to the night's feature presentation.

Attendees are encouraged to heckle the movie, à la “Mystery Science Theater 3000” or “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” They receive a discounted admission if they dress up in an appropriately themed costume.

The final two installments of the Trash Film Orgy’s summer season are this Saturday and Aug. 13, with doors opening at 11 p.m. at the Crest Theatre.
