Every single one is based in the county or pays for a local license. I know all the trucks and with the exception of special events - where the trucks pay a large premium to vend for a day - I've never heard of out of area trucks trying to poach here. Gas is just too expensive. You'd have to sell here for 10 or 12 days just to break even on the gas, and then how would you handle resupply and your commissary every night?

These trucks pay a HUGE amount of local taxes, compared to restaurants.

So what's the latest on this topic? If the Kings stay and build the arena at the downtown plaza, mix-use development with urban housing sounds great. My only hope is that we go BIG on this and not do something halfass. This needs to put Sactown on the map. I envision something like San Antonio's Riverwalk. Must have some canals, marina, gondolas, museums, state of the art science museum that puts SF's Exploratorium to shame, small park areas, restaurants, high-rise condos, restaurants, outdoor cafes, something for the kids ie. huge kid-friendly fountain, recreation areas, a few beach areas on the canals, beach volleyball, walking trails, outdoor venders, muscle beach, etc. etc. Needs to be a "must see" destination!!

Not buying it...Sacramento Light Rail is a big fat stinking pile of dung lie...The cost to the taxpayers has FAR exceeded any of the BS lofty benefits proponents have mystified taxpayers into believing...It's a financial, operational, and social FIASCO. BOONDOGGLE. FUBAR...Snap out of it, rail folk. It's bogus...A joke...Some experts believe there are only several cities in the whole USA that really benefit from Metro rail -- NY and L.A....Public transit in Sac has SUFFERED tremendously since this ridiculous, incredibly costly, Light Rail was forced upon us...Traffic is WORSE, vehicles have INCREASED on the roads since it's inception...We would have been FAR better off simply with a fleet of Natural Gas buses and more routes...(But Obama is too tied up with established Unions to mess around with a new, affordable, cheap and domestic, cleaner-burning fuel as Natural Gas. Oh, No. That would too logical)....
Now we have less routes, less access, must pay more. Most everyone hates the ridiculous prices we must monthly to ride it...It's not cost-saving to the commuter. It's actually MORE expensive....RT has screwed the pooch royally....I haven't met anyone yet who likes Light Rail, for any reason...

Well said MeeSun74! I believe you nailed it on the head! I been rooting for them since the day I met a few of them out front. They're full of energy and enthusiastic as hell (pardon the pun)!, I find it tough not to like them.

And so, we've had the opportunity to try their food offerings and test the service. The receptionist was very pleasant. She greeted me with a smile and lead us to our table. Our server, was a female. She too was pleasant, but her service wasn't the best, but it could of been much worse!
Our server suggested we ordered something called DEVILS Horseback for appetizr. Though my gut feeling told me not too, but my date was willing to give it a taste. so how does a date, with garlic and wrapped in bacon have so much flavor???????? It just exploded with yummy goodness with the first bite! It was incredible. My serving of the pork loin was enormous! it was tender thru and thru. the garlic mash was good, but still needed a dash of salt and the aspagus was fresh and not overcooked. my date ordered salmon with some noodles. i never got a taste of her plate, cuz i had a ton of food on mine! We never made it around to dessert, we were just too stuffed. For the 70bucks spent, it was well worth it. Great atmosphere, decent service, and single servings enuf to feed 3! THUMBS UP,GUYS!

While touting itself as a mayoral appointed task force, the case could be made thatThink Big was a bought and paid for lobbyist group, for the downtown arena, operating completely outside of the disclosure rules of being a lobbyist and disclosing where their funding came from.

The mayor and his staff contributed to that lack of transparency by not disclosing that "behest" funding to his Sacramento Public Policy Foundation within the dictated 30-day timeframe mandatre by the FPPC.

When you actually look closer at his office's disclosures, you will see numerous payments that are not even listed in the years in which they were actually received.

Cosmo was right, there is a pattern here, going back to the days before he was mayor.

If this mayor can't stand being under the looking glass, and doing things mandated by both the state and feds, does he really belong in the public sector?

It's a waste of time, effort and money. The only other way to get him out of office would be to have him resign. Is the Kings-Think Big-Arena funding enough of a fiasco to force him out of office? At this point I don't think it is. We've become too cynical and apathetic when it comes to politicians and money.

Besides we have problem in this town that showed up in the last election. There were no serious candidates running against KJ. I don't mean to belittle the ones that did -I voted for one of them- but in real terms none of them were able to raise the money needed nor did they have any real presence in the media or the public's mind. And I don't see anyone today who's out beating the drum against KJ's admin who could seriously take his place.

Where is the quid pro quo? You're just grasping at straws. One just has to look at you're bizarre claim that the Mayor had something to do with Cosmo leaving SNR that you have an ax to grind. The old guard in this town is starting to resemble the Ken Starr investigation. It has about as much to do with corruption as Monica Lewinsky did

What bothers me more than these trumped up allegations is that real progressive work in this city might get stopped. Permanent housing for the homeless. Making Sacramento the regional hub for green technology. Expanding the arts scene here. Quality education for all socio-economic classes. Infill development as opposed to urban sprawl.

And I find it interesting that the folks most against the Mayor are the same folks that sat back or actually benefitted from all the sprawl development that happened during the last decade. People can complain about KJ and his supposed power grab with the strong mayor all they want but nothing---NOTHING!---he's done or will ever do will match the damage that was done to Sacramento by Fargo and Co during the Natomas build out. That the Mayor is trying to do urban infill projects as opposed to more sprawl development is hitting a few too many people in their pokect books and they are using labor and the Democratic party structure to fight back. It's an f'ing joke.

Tom, I remember a discussion you had with a number of us back in 2009...

http://sacramentopress.com/headline/14002/Strong_mayor_friends_foes_react_to_committees_report

I'm referring to the FPPC filing requirements for being registered with them once you reach a threshold of contributions. You were having a major issue with STOP because you felt they were not following the rules. However they actually were based on their filing docs....and we were talking about 1-3 days there.

So now, we see a convoluted arrangement, where the mayor went out and solicited funds from regional business interest, to show the NBA that Sacramento was committed to the KINGS. Apparently there was a caveats that that money be donated to the kings and then the KING would be required to forward a percentage of it to SPPFoundation...which then forwarded into Think Big. Meanwhile Think Big is promoting itself as a grass roots, pro bono task force? When the Kings and those business interest were in fact the funding mechanism for Think Big, yet not disclosed. It's one thing to be able to follow the money and understand who's paying for the message, which apparently the mayor knew all about. A group of people suspected a tainted message, but without knowing the details or the money path....purely speculative. Even Ryan Lillis, in his conversation with Jarred & Cosmo said no one he's talked to at the office knew anything about it nor did a number of council members he has spoke with...

So on top of that...The KINGs send the money to SPPFoundation at the behest of the mayor...only problem is that the mayor doesn't file any of the paperwork for the lion-share of the KINGs donations.....for over a year? And didn't even begin the filing process until after KJ Inc hit the stands....in the wrong calendar year to boot.....if you think FPPC has a problem with filing deadlines...the IRS really frowns and reporting income in the wrong year.

So, whose IQ dropping are you referring to again?

I remember late Aug, early Sept 2009.....KJ had loaned SAG 25,000 dollars in support of SMI 1. The city attorney raised issue with KJ loans creating a conflict of interest and that he should recuse himself from the SMI 1 debate. Well after alot of posturing and bellowing by Hiltack, Maviglio and the mayor....a letter surfaced indicating that the loan had been forgiven to the status of a gift.....FPPC ruled no conflict since the loan no longer existed. KJ, his attorney and spokesperson....only doing the right thing after the fact.....and now their going to use this "behest" loophole to contribute to a private lobbying non-profit to circumvent the public's right to know? Turn in "Behest" contribution form a year or more after the fact?

Ask any competent Pest Control company, even the worst infestation is abateable. Simply put, it's just a matter of escalating the "toxicity" with regards to the means by which one accomplishes said abatement.

Certain offices on the 5th and the 3rd floor at City Hall seem to be "infested". Apparently eradication is already occurring on the 3rd floor.

One previous comment is that perhaps The Friends of The Library should open their own PRIVATE library, since they apparently have so much fundraising power, which is a very good suggestion! Ms. Sally McGrath is now the Head Librarian and she has her own particular vision of how the library should be run, which is her job. And she's doing an excellent job! Work with her and welcome her; don't give her grief! Let Ms. McGrath do her job and quit complaining and if you don't like things the way they are now, go someplace else and be Friends there! Enough of this small-minded mentality and political divisiveness already! Take a deep, cleansing breath and embrace change. Stop the bickering and back-biting.
When you look at the filings for "behest" provided by Cosmo on Sacramento Current....

Why is it that the City Clerk's Office receives very timely reports from everyone but the mayor's office, with very few exceptions?

Look at the dates on those filings vs the date of payment.....also notice how some of KJ's signatures aren't dated....yet some are.

http://sacramentocurrent.com/2012/09/05/oops-team-kj-forgets-to-report-350000-in-donations-from-kings-until-nosy-reporters-show-up/

Good Examples

Rec'd by city clerk on 8/23/12 Date of payment 8/8/12 $20,000 from AT&T to the Sacramento PP Foundation at the behest of the mayor....New Book Keeper?

Rec'd by city clerk on 8/23/12 Date of payment 8/6/12 $17,500 from Western Health Advantage to the Sacramento PP Foundation at the behest of the mayor....Same New Book Keeper?

Bad Examples

Rec'd by city clerk on 8/23/2012 Date of payment 6/29/11 $160,500 from Sacramento Kings to the Sacramento PP Foundation at the behest of the mayor....over a year old?

Rec'd by city clerk on 8/23/2012 Date of payment 6/23/11 $137,000 from Sacramento Kings to the Sacramento PP Foundation at the behest of the mayor....over a year old?

Rec'd by city clerk on 8/23/2012 Date of payment 8/11/11 $50,000 from Sacramento Kings to the Sacramento PP Foundation at the behest of the mayor....over a year old?

So please ask Cosmo if they had to file a Public Record request for this info or was it readily available on the city clerk's website....like campaign contributions are. If it isn't, given the size of the influence being pedaled here...

It should be readily available!

PS

Is it any coincidence that KJ Inc hit the newsstands on 8/16/2012.....then a few days later we started seeing "behest" filings by the Mayor's office.....Stink-O-Meter off the scale.

March 31, 2012 I wrote a comment to the following article:

http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/65766/Town_hall_on_arena_sparks_debate_on_parking_public_funds

"So, where is Craig Powell's "Eye on Sacramento"...involving the potential mis-use of this enterprise fund. His EOS is all over the utilities department operation but totally mum on this...in fact EOS has been virtually mum on the Arena deal in general, except to suggest that the utility rate increase was possibly associated with creating a funding source for the arena.

Is someone is trying to empty The Parking Fund assets, to force the privatization of the parking lots and garages? Just how legal is this?

This whole mess stinks!"

Throughout the entire arena debacle....Craig's non-profit was silent! Not one peep. Why was that?
Has EOS been a recipient of any "behest" or contributions from any councilmembers or the mayor?

How transparent is EOS intent on being with regards to disclosing donors and the amounts donated...especially in light of what we are seeing the mayor, his attorney and others are doing under the guise of a non-profit?

By the way, no ballot argument against the 1/2 percent tax increase in our household required...it's a "NO" vote . Having supported the utility tax several times now....only to find out that we have been paying 100% of public safety contributions up until now....and will continue to do so until police re-negotiate their pension responsibilties.....

I was relieved to see how every other represented group stepped up to meet CalPeers requirements. Had SPOA done the same....I would have seriously considered a 1/4 % inc.

Council over-reached at 1/2 %, however the dealbreaker happened when SPOA allowed their junior officers to take the "lay off" sword....meanwhile receiving 6 1/2 percent pay increase over the last 18 months!

SPOA should have allowed a vote on the pension issue, by the rank and file.

For those 'naysayers' - WOW..you are some haters! It's a shame that you can be so self-righteous and negative and make a 'judgement' about a new place before they even OPEN!! It's analogous to make a judgement that a you kid will grow up to be a loser because the parents (in this restaurant's case the predecessor) are losers! Way to WELCOME an entrepreneur tyring to bring business, jobs and employment opportunities to your community! With negative attitudes like YOURS (the haters..you know who you are!) no wonder the previous businesses didn't success! Before you 'judge' take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself what are YOU doing (other than posting negativity on the web)... to better your community??? Give it a chance BEFORE you have an opinion!! I wish the place GOOD LUCK, MUCH SUCCESS and POSITIVE ENERGY!

As I predicted, Brown's response focused on the number of jobs.

Between June '11 and June '12 the unemployment rate dropped from 11.9 to 10.7% (Table C). But because California has the largest population by wide margin, this resulted in a 365,000 YoY decrease in unemployment.

Leave it to Jerry Brown to find a way to sugarcoat 10.7% unemployment

The Maloofs are well aware that they are hated in Sacramento and they don't care because the feeling is mutual (maybe not so much George but certainly the rest) and they can't wait to get out of town. They own of the Kings and there's nothing that any institution can legally do to change that. The only reason they haven't moved yet is that more financially powerful organizations than the Maloofs, namely AEG, have succeeded in thwarting their efforts to move to OC. Nothing that Sacramento has done so far nor can do can in the future will make any difference. When and where the Kings move will be determined by the corporations that have financial clout within the NBA.

Yeah AEG (owners of Staples Arena) are working to make sure the Kings don't move to OC but a friend of the Maloofs and someone with deep pockets wants to move them to move to Anaheim and that would be financially advantageous for them. Plus it’s more glamorous than Sacramento or Virginia Beach for that matter. Remember that people just don’t own a professional sports franchise because they want to make money.
It is the classic political spokesman trick. If the unemployment percentage is horrible (which it is) then redirect by focusing on the actually number of new jobs.

Because of California's enormous population, even a pathetic 0.1% improvement in the employment rate equals hundreds of thousands of new jobs. Meanwhile, Jerry Brown's spokesman is ignoring the millions of Californians that are still out of work, far more than in New Jersey.

I recall reading a couple of Virginia Beach city council members were upset they didn't know of the Arena plans being scheduled today. Still trying to figure out their website; ours is so much simplier lol http://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/city-clerk/city-council/Pages/default.aspx

I don't see anything on their agenda for today on the arena unless i am reading it wrong. I look forward to reading more here.

The studio where I teach is right across the alley from Southside; while I do love and support community events in the neighborhood, it sounds like this one wasn't as well-planned or researched as it could have been. I'm surprised Ms. Rector didn't know that major events held in a city park require a permit...I think that holding the water fight after the major clean-up would have been a bit backwards and probably not worked out the way that the event organizer(s) likely wanted. I am skeptical about how many attendees would have respected the "no balloons" rule and bothered staying around after the event to clean up the park. That isn't something that can be enforced, so unless the organizers had a pre-picked volunteer cleanup crew for after the waterfight then it's even more likely that the clean-up event volunteers' work would have gone to waste within mere hours. But it sounds like the organizer(s) were relying on the public to clean up after the event, which is just poor planning all-around. You can't plan an event for hundreds of people in a public space, not have an actual cleaning crew planned, and then expect everyone participating to voluntarily stick around and clean up. It just isn't realistic and a bit, dare I say, not very mindful to impose on the residents like that (who are by all means some of the most welcoming people living on the Grid). I am honestly curious as to why Ms. Rector didn't try planning this event in her neighborhood, as I believe she lives in Oak Park...? That being said, I do wish the rescheduled event the best of luck. It sounds like this time they're getting their ducks lined up and like it should be a fun event.

Exactly, the only thing that Castleman doesn't like about this plan is that it would interfere with his bicycle rental business. Anyone looking objective at the plan (it has a 20 year scope) would see that access to Old Sac and downtown would actually be improved by the plan. The fact that Castleman only wants a bypass for commuters and other cyclist "AFTER" other access issues are addressed show exactly who he is looking out for, number 1.

Unfortunately, Mr. Castleman doesn't like this plan only because it disturbs his business model of a bike rental service in Old Sacramento. If you look at the CSRM plans you can see that bicycle access around and through Old Sacramento is in fact enhanced, it just doesn't pass as close to Practical Cycles anymore. Mr. Castleman has been pretty silent on the issue of improving the current access of bicycles to Old Sacramento (like bike racks, bike path improvements, bike path signs) because he doesn't care about cyclists riding into and through Old Sac, he just wants to rent bikes to tourists.

Mark, I completely agree with your comment. I will keep hope alive for elected officials with a vision, that's not clouded, hoping they'll see beyond themselves to assist in moving this city forward. I realize elected officials are but one piece of the puzzle. We all have a role in ensuring Sacramento residents have a better quality of life…. I will keep hope alive for more visionaries and less self serving political strategists.

In the meantime I see the glass as half full verses half empty. I think we’re closer to the road we need to be than we are to the road we were once on. The times they are a changin. While the situation is sad; your comment is uplifting. In the words of Haile Selassie "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, that has made it possible for evil to triumph." Thank you for your action by showing interest and concern for our city. Thank you for commenting with a voice of both reason and truth. Our similarities (both of us wanting the best for our city) will always outweigh whatever differences (of opinion) we may have. Much Respect

Not to pick nits here, but I think the "high techiness" of something and it's availability are independent. The reality is that the Maloof's have massive cash flow issues and this far overrides their feelings for or against Sacramento.. An arena deal or a move to another city are the only options for them to change their situation. But even with a move, the most likely outcome is that the Maloof's will lose control of the team.

The Maloof's are in a deep hole, and they will keep squirming and chasing after lifelines. If this one falls through, we will hear more of these.

Heck, why would the Maloofs let the left hand (Johnson) know what the right hand (Virginia Beach) is doing considering our reaction at Anaheim city council when the Maloofs attempted to go to Anaheim? I think it’s a smart move for them not to discuss it until after next Tuesday when it’s presented to Virginia Beach Council (and for several reasons)

The media is asking the Maloofs if they're in contact with Virgina Beach lol. And to that they can reply they haven’t been in contact. Because it seems they're in contact with the middle men- those presenting/ sponsoring, supporting and bringing it to Virginia Beach council next week. The Maloofs said they do not trust our mayor so why on earth would they have gone to the NBA first or made this public that seems silly if this is a deal they really want to happen. Whether or not they leave we have to read between the lines but it appears they are getting smarter-- due to not trusting Sacramento's mayor --about how they go about leaving. Personally I could care less if they leave; but I do care about Sacramento and how we are perceived with this move. I don't care about a sports team I care about our integrity--eyes are not just on the Maloofs- the eyes of the media wire, NBA teams/ sports arenas are also on us

Yes, there are many commuters that would prefer bypassing Old Sacramento but there are also many who ride to Old Sacramento to dine, shop and enjoy the museums and special events such as the St Patrick's day Parade, Sacramento Music Festival, Gold Rush Days, Theatre of Lights, New Years Fireworks, Raley Field for baseball games, etc. Forcing all these through the intersection at 2nd & I would make visiting Old Sacramento dangerous and less desirable for all of these visitors. Tourists also like the safe and convenient access from Old Sacramento to the bike trails so it makes sense to improve access rather than hiding it behind the RR museum and forcing riders to navigate that busy intersection. That said I am 100% in favor of also providing a bypass for commuters, AFTER the current trail and access are improved to safely accomodate all users.

It should also be noted...the stretch of the bike path is used by tourist from the hotels near Richards Blvd as well as tourist renting bikes in Old Sac and then heading north along the trail. Folks entering the trail on R Street and other points south of Old Sac also use this portion to get to Discovery Park. My understanding is the city is looking to maximize the number of visitors to the Power Museum who will come by something other than a car.

This guy could get a job with the city..he thinks just like them... only from the viewpoint of the bureaucrat and never with any consideration of the users of the service or the public paying his salary.

The reporter might have provided the address for the bike shop...most Sacramentans don't know there are more than candy and t shirt shops in Old Sac.

Even cooler is the option to submit photos with your entry. This seems like it would be useful for so many situations.

And while with all my heart I want midtown residents to feel safe, comfortable and secure in their homes, neighborhood…if Mayor Johnson addresses yet another high profile shooting such as he did with the Barbershop shooting - which was in Supervisor Yees district and 2nd Saturdays shooting because it could potentially hurt businesses--- it will appear the city/ Mayor is addressing the violence with conditional love- and I have a problem with that. It would appear some of our deaths/ pain suffering are not valued as some of our deaths are ignored, dismissed...... We should not put borders, boundaries on tragedy- the crime scene should go beyond the area scene and into the hearts and conscious of us all. I'd attend a forum to address violence, shootings in Midtown, Natomas, East Sac, South Sac, North Sac.., city or county. Heck, I wanted to drive to Stockton yesterday but could not get off work. Mark Twain wrote “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” If we want to address this cancerous polyp we have to do more than put chemo / radiation on the midtown bar scene; or we will leave the cancer to continue to break off and spread throughout the body of the city of Sacramento.

I know the city is working on a comprehensive prevention plan to address youth violence... However, It would be nice if Mayor Johnson/ city held a special council session to open up a city discussion. (Similar to what former mayor Fargo did in 2006 during a crime wave) where former chief Najera gave a presentation.... Doing it away from the I'm-tryin-to-get-a-grant-prevention model Johnson forum and gathering community input from all districts would be nice. Yesterday I watched such a news forum where Stockton Police Chief called upon the residents to address killings/ violence. Approximately 500 people attended the Stockton forum. I recall when a 19yr old boy was shot and killed in front of downtown Macy's body removed and business as usual. A 21yr old shot and killed at Denny's several others shot and body removed and business open as usual. I recall when a 17yr old boy was found dead behind a midtown tree, another shot in midtown parking garage, another body found in a midtown dumpster.... but I also recall homicides in Land Park, Natomas, Meadowiew, Oak Park.... This is not an incident isolated to the Bar Scene nor should addressing it be an issue when it happens on a Second Saturday or after /during bar hours. We shouldn't take an approach of finding what we're looking for - looking to make lack of officers or clubs/ alcohol the sole contributing factor- we should take an approach of gathering evidence based, researched based... solutions.....
