Well said, Marty. Individual awards and stats are no replacement for a good team. Not even Oscar Robertson's individual statistical brilliance could get his team anywhere. It was only when he got on a good team with Lew Alcindor (aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and others, that he was able to bag a championship.

For now it looks like non-payment of rent, but the issue might be more complicated than that.

I received the following reply in an email from Mark Ellis, Managing Partner of Ellis, Coleman, Porier, Lavoie & Steinheimer, which is representing Orr:

"Hina’s Tea has been occupying Mr. Orr’s premises without paying rent for years; we believe Hina’s refusal to pay rent was not legally justified and instead was based, in our judgment, upon pretextual excuses so as to unfairly stay in the premises rent free to Mr. Orr’s detriment.

In any event, the eviction that is occurring is based upon a valid court order dated 3/26/10 that found that Mr. Orr is legally entitled to re-possession of his premises."

Just to clarify the last paragraph, as Mr. Burg has stated below, charter schools don't have to conform to the Field Act.

As the story states, the school's previous building for eight years was also not Field Act compliant.

As far as I understand, Lopez seemed to reinforce the Superintendent's maxim that no students, even charter school students, should be in non-Field Act-compliant buildings. At the same time she acknowledged that parents and others feel charter school students are legal and safe in those buildings. Hence a "grey area" of debate on where students "should" be.

Thank you for your comments, Rhys02, lurch394 and Jennifer. You are all right, and I stand corrected.

Rhys: Yes. Thank you for the clarification. Technically these three businesses are in Oak Park. Sorry about the mistake. They didn't call themselves Curtis Park businesses. It was me. They called it "The Parks" because they wanted to include Oak Park and Curtis Park, since it's on the edge of the two neighborhoods, and they even wanted to include Land Park to the West and Tahoe Park to the East. Anyway, they also said they were happy to be near a historic neighborhood.

Lurch: Yes. It's 3rd Avenue. Thank you for the catch.

Jennifer: Yes, the Retrolodge is the name of a development project and not a renaming. Great comment. Perhaps a better example of a similar renaming would have been the Midtown Art Retail Restaurant Scene on 20th street in midtown.

I'd be interested to know what other micro-re-namings there have been recently and are scheduled to occur in the future.

**Note: The information included in the article says that La Capitale was published until 1945. This information came from this source: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045011

La Capitale closed in 1941, according to Cerruti.

He explains, "The La Capitale newspaper stopped publication in 1941 due to pressures on Italian language publications by the government. It never recovered and the Italian community did not have a community publiciation again until the Italian Cultural Society begin publishing Altre Voci in 1982. That was a break of 40 years and the lack of a unifying publication helped further the decline of the Italian American community for a gereration. The generation that lived through the war were afraid of being to Italian and they passed on that attitude. Now , Italian Americans are being uplifted by their new community organizations and activities which celebrate their heritage and provide new connections to their history, their cultural heritage and even to Italy as a cultural and travel destination."

Great writing. The wait is crazy sometimes, but like you said, their drinks are quite well-mixed, and their food is for the most part, consistently good. However, from my experience, the Roseville Galleria Cheesecake Factory is an even longer wait than the Arden Mall one. I went there once on a Saturday (probably the reason for the long wait) and I waited for nearly two hours. Plus, the mall was closed, so it made the wait in the lobby seem even worse. The Arden one had a much shorter wait, but I went on a weekday, so that's probably why.

Indeed it was a great event! There were a few drink items from the competition that made it onto the menu. Russ Eastman's "Vow of Silence" (which was quite tasty, but very strong due to the Broker's 47% alcohol content), and Nicole Savage's Orwell-inspired "1984" both found their way onto a special cocktail menu because they were created by Lounge on 20 bartenders. Chris Tucker of L Wine Lounge passed extra portions of his winning drink around for audience members to taste. Hopefully if we visit these mixologists at their bars, they will still make one of the special competition drinks when asked.

I saw a turkey this morning while driving downtown. Last weekend at around dusk I also saw a family of turkeys going south and crossing Arden Way near the Highway 160 exit. The big turkey looked both ways before crossing the street. Then when the coast was clear, the whole family ran for it. They looked like they were following pedestrian traffic regulations! Unfortunately someone speeding off the freeway hit one of the little ones who was straggling.
