Ethnic Blend Clothing, representing a culturally mixed world

For Ethnic Blend Clothing owners, Dejanelle and Thomas Boerner, representing a clothing brand like Nike was not enough, they wanted their clothing to have a personal message. Ethnic Blend Clothing (EBC) is a local urban street-wear clothing brand designed to represent a multicultural and mixed world on T-shirts, tank tops and sweaters. “We wanted to educate people through the clothing line. We are creating an awareness here in Sacramento,” through the Second Saturday Art Walk events called Mixture, and by wearing the brand, Boerner said. One way the company intends to create awareness is by donating $1 of every T-shirt sold through the upcoming website to a scholarship fund specifically

Sacramento Children's Museum opens its doors Thursday for children under 8 to explore

After seven years of planning and development, the Sacramento Children’s Museum opened its doors Thursday morning after 24 little hands, holding red scissors, cut the green ribbon in front of more than 300 people waiting to explore the new museum. The Sacramento Children’s Museum is a nonprofit corporation founded in 2004, that focuses the interactive exhibits on math, science, art and social learning skills for children ages 8 and under. Cover the Kids funding reductions trickled down from the state level

A healthy kids initiative had its funding cut Tuesday when the City Council voted to decrease grant funding by 60 percent, a move officials say stems from the state budget difficulties. The Sacramento First 5 Commission funds 60 percent of Cover the Kids (CTK), a program launched in 1998 with the funds from a tobacco tax that engages in family outreach to enroll children into health care programs by helping and educating families on the importance of preventative care and how to navigate the health care system in five counties: Colusa, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yuba. CTK assisted to enroll approximately 3,500 children in this past fiscal year into health coverage programs, Joil X

River Cats snap 8-game skid against Round Rock Express, 5-3

Round Rock took three out of the four-game series against Sacramento, which managed to break its second longest eight-game losing streak of the season, with an action-packed win Monday night, 5-3. Texas Rangers’ affiliate, Round Rock Express, took an early lead in the first by capitalizing on an error by River Cats second baseman Andy LaRoche that allowed third baseman Esteban German to score after stealing his 40th base of the season in the same inning. An action-packed second inning for the River Cats gave Sacramento a two-run lead after a single from Carter and an RBI double by center fielder Jermaine Mitchell bringing the score 3-1. A sprained thumb had Carter out since April, after

I definitely like the idea of decorative canopies! They are starting to use them more in playgrounds and they offer great shade, but trees are beautiful and should be included for sure!
