Sacramento Sustainability Forum’s one-year anniversary meeting was held at SMUD Auditorium on August 19. In advance of being seated in the auditorium, those in attendance shared cake, libations, networking and song to celebrate the occasion. This marked the fourth time an SSF event was held at SMUD Auditorium. Sacramento Sustainability Forum is a monthly venue for connecting businesses, nonprofits, government and interested citizens in the Sacramento region in order to promote sustainability, share insights and resources, and support movement toward a more sustainable future. The topic for the evening was “Waste and Recycling in Our Region.” Approximately 70 people were in attendance to

The Sacramento Green Expo 2010 at Cal Expo April 24 was Sacramento’s first sustainable lifestyle expo. There were almost 80 exhibitors whose business types included heating and cooling, building design, gardening, yoga, pet foods, state agencies, SMUD, restaurants, healthcare, conservation organizations, real estate, automotive, retail, services, home improvement and more. One exhibitor was Sacramento Sustainability Forum. The forum is a monthly venue to connect businesses, organizations, government and interested citizens in the Sacramento region to promote and support a sense of community and movement toward a sustainable future in our region. April 16 marked the arrival of TEDx in Sacramento, bringing a “TED-like experience” to our area. What is TED? TED stands for “Technology, Education, Design.” It is a small nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.” Started in 1984, its purpose has spread to include an annual U.S. conference in Long Beach as well as a TEDGlobal conference in the United Kingdom, a TEDTalks online video site, an annual TED Prize, a nationwide local program called TEDx and more. Per TEDx Sacramento, “The TEDx Conference provided a license and general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.” Brandon Weber, TEDx Sacramento curator, said the local team want
The Northern California Social Media Society is a new organization that aims to provide its members “access to a broad ecosystem of support to help you grow your business, enhance your leadership, and expand your impact as a socially responsible business leader.” Its launch party was held last Tuesday at Mix Downtown’s rooftop location at 16th and L streets. It was a sunny, comfortable setting for the introduction of the media society as well as good conversation among the enthusiastic attendees, who enjoyed light refreshments and raffle prizes donated by the leadership team and fans. The team includes Nicole France of Buzz Sense Media, Beth Diebels of A Social Media Group, Peri R. R
Thanks Laura... I enjoyed your TEDx article too. I'll next be writing about the Sacramento Sustainability Forum meeting at Green Expo this weekend, & am still working on my "Two Way Tweet" post too.
Oops... sorry Ron. I'll see if I can still correct this (maybe not...)
David, I don't think that a schedule has been finalized as of yet. I would suggest joining the group's Facebook or Meetup page so can receive all notifications.
Giovanni's is not NY pizza. I truly have not found any local spots that are either. Giovanni's had a location on Fair Oaks Blvd in or near Loehmann's Plaza & their pie was decent (for some reason I found it better than the Folsom Blvd location) but they closed. Luigi's Slice is pretty good, but not the true fold-and-drip I expect from a pie slice. Sbarro has a couple of Sac metro locations but their quality has declined in recent years in my opinion. Amici's East Coast Pizzeria in Nut Tree (Vacaville) is good, but again not true NY (perhaps Boston?). The most authentic NY slice I have consistently enjoyed is in the Bay Area, where Arinell Pizza has 2 locations: Arinell Pizza Inc - Google Maps http://bit.ly/7DSF26 (Berkeley, CA) Arinell Pizza Inc - Google Maps http://bit.ly/6EquTU (San Francisco, CA) If you don't mind standing at a counter & eating (just like NY) or sometimes an available (limited) seat, you're in for a treat. My son & I try to swing by whenever we're near one of their locations. The last time we arrived just as a Cal football game ended, so we had to do without. I have thoughts on a number of other pizza joints, but will save those for another time & place. I haven't been to either place Jim (see above) has recommended, but will hope to give them a try at some point). Other thoughts? PS: I agree with bbbbmer (see above) about the lack of a true NY Deli experience in Sac.... Max's Cafe was fairly close but they closed their locations at Arden & the Roseville Galleria... you've got to go to Marin (Corte Madera) or beyond to find one now.
Conversation about: TED 'Unleashed' Thursday
Great to read all the excitement. I'm going to visit the Talks Unleashed FB page... I will likely wait for the clips to be posted as I fear I'm out of the intended attendee age demographic :-( RichardRich, this is only the beginning... watch out for TEDy bears...
