Looking at the two men, one wouldn’t notice much in common; except maybe the worn out pair of jeans each wore and the purple stains under their finger nails. But these two men share the same passion – wine. “Some kids went to preschool,” said D.J. Latcham, a 24-year-old third generation winery owner and operator at Latcham Vineyards. “I went to the tasting room. There is wine in my veins. Some zin is in there somewhere.” For Mount Aukum winemaker Michel Prod’hon, a native of a tiny French village who moved to the U.S. 31 years ago, wine was a part of growing up. “When I grew up, we didn’t wait to drink. I have been drinking wine since I was little.” His childhood memories involved pickin

May 31, 2010 — The Annual Walk 'N Rock took place at Raley Field on Sunday, May 30. The event is organized by Sacramento-based Hope Productions Foundation to support local children’s charities. Hope Productions Foundation anticipates that the morning walk, combined with business sponsorships and Sunday evening’s benefit concert, starring rock legends Heart and Sammy Hagar, will raise nearly $700,000 for local children’s charities. An estimated 30,000 children in the Sacramento area will benefit from the day's activities. “We’re heartened that so many members of our community, including several businesses, have joined together to support local children’s charities,” said Debbie Gabelich,

"Wine thief" is the name of the instrument used to extract wine from a barrel (you can see it used in the photo). I had defined and referred to it in my previous article. I was attempting to tie together the the use of it for barrel tasting along with the idea that Nor Californians were "stealing" all the great wine....and as a result, there was none to ship elsewhere. The recent wine symposium stated there wasn't a market for wine over $20 and exports were down, yet each winery I visited in El Dorado had a hard time keeping their bottles in stock. I think there will always be a demand for great wine!!!
