Ever wonder about the different cuisines found throughout Latin America or different flavors infused into the foods of Latin America? Perhaps you’re curious about the variety of music that can be heard throughout Latin America, from Tango, Salsa to Merengue.

The perfect opportunity to taste the foods found in Latin America while hearing a variety of music presents it’s self this weekend at the 19th Annual Festival de la Familia.

The festival takes place Sunday, Apr. 25 from 10:00am -6:00pm at Cal Expo in Sacramento, Calif.

Having lived in San Francisco’s Mission District exposed me to some of the most amazing flavors of food and music found throughout Latin America.
In the Mission District you can find foods from Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Surrounded by a number of Salvadoran restaurants in San Francisco, I had my first taste of a Salvadoran pupusa, resembling a thick corn tortilla made of masa and filled with cheese or chicharron a combination of pork and spices. It’s what I call mouth watering.
And who can forget Gallo Pinto, beans and rice cooked together a common dish found throughout Latin America that goes by many names.
In the streets of the Mission district on hot summer days you could hear the sounds of Salsa and Cumbia music. The music was usually performed by a group of neighbors coming together after a hard days work.

It will be nice to take a stroll through Festival de la Familia hearing the cheerful sounds of Latin music and smelling the variety of infused spices roaming through the air. Much as one would hear and smell taking a stroll through San Francisco’s Mission District.

There are a variety of activities for the family from fine arts and crafts to contest.
Additional information on the event can be found on event website:

Those were the words of a seasoned homeless man as my husband and I left the Farmers Market in Davis, Calif. Wed. Apr. 14

While strolling down farmers market in Davis there were several local businesses farmers’ organizations and local wine stands.

Vendors were happy to greet people and answer questions from potential customers.

There were several people in the crowed, some were shopping, dinning, spending time with family in the park while listening to the sounds of the Gary Lee Yoder band a local band from Davis, Calif.
