Its not a right any more than any other public amenity is a natural right. And of course an arena alone is not going to solve all the problems of Sacramento. (I have no idea what you mean by natural-we aren't born with a right to paved streets either)

Growsac: You are wrong, it does contribute to the local economy and to public improvements and programs. "Chain companies" have to hire people from this region to run those businesses. That means jobs and people having money to spend on various things that create more jobs and improve our city.

People that go to the arena will be paying ticket surcharges. I'd rather pay that here than into bay area public coffers. More businesses, locally owned or not mean sales tax and property taxes paid into our city coffers. They will also spend money on parking, light rail and buses. So people that go to the bay area for sports will contribute part of their wages to businesses and public coffers there. They'll go to concerts, ice shows, MMA, WWE, basketball tournaments, gymnastic competitions, etc. in the bay area. So they'll pay for higher ticket prices, more costly parking there. They'll eat at restaurants there, shop in stores (even if only in the arenas or stadiums) there. So people there will have those jobs, sales taxes and various other fess will go to those cities

The head of the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau reported that he gets calls from convention planners all the time asking when Sacramento will have a downtown arena so larger conventions can be accommodated. That's millions of dollars of spending that will come from outside this region. Convention goers to spend money on hotels, bars, restaurants, taxis, in shops and for such entertainment as theater, ballet, concerts, basketball games multiple museums. Some might bring their families, too.

I just don't understand why some people don't see that this is much bigger than a basketball team. As to the Kings, the one thing I've ever seen in Sacramento over the 46 years I've been here that really cuts across all socio-economic, racial, ethnic, age, religious, political and other divisions is a shared relationship with the Kings. As a matter of fact, I've become acquainted with people all over the world who are Kings or NBA basketball fans.

You are so wrong about money being kept here. The businesses profiting from keeping the Sacramento Kings here only benefit chain companies from outside Sacramento, a few local developers, and City Council members who are afraid to support local talents. On top of all this, we finally lose all chances of a real downtown that I grew up with where the real business and talents of Sacramento are centralized.

In a nutshell, follow the money; for every million dollars sold in Sacramento, $100,000 leaves are community in the form of profit and corporate royalties. After 25 years of listening to the same developers and following the lead of redevelopment money, Sacramento looks like it has been sucked dry by Dracula -- lots of jobs and nothing else.

It is about much more then just basketball. 200+ events per year are NOT basketball. And that's despite the fact that certain events won't come to the old, inadequate barn anymore. We are talking about 1,200 jobs. This is about drawing in private investment in our community and not losing local money to other areas, especially the bay area. They say people will spend their entertainment dollars elsewhere. Yes they will, and a lot of it will go to other cities and areas. Three stages in Folsom, Mondavi Center in Davis, the arena in Stockton. For pro sports, big name concerts, PBR, MMA, ice shows, the circus and more will all be money spent elsewhere, especially in the bay area.

So people will be spending their money in for hotels, gas, restaurants, shopping (even if only at the arenas/stadiums), parking in the bay area. And all those taxes and surcharges will go to bay area coffers. What a great plan. Instead of investing in jobs and other things in Sacramento, let's support bay area cities!

By the way, I've detested the Warriors all my life, I will never, ever root for them. Don't like the Niners or the Giants either. I do, however, represent three generations of Kings fans. I also love opportunities to take my grandkids to other event at the arena.

I do think there's a good chance to keep the Kings here.

Respectfully, if you have sponsor an event to highlight the community's support of the Kings, and the game doesn't come close to selling out, does that mean that the city doesn't support the Kings? I would also be interested in learning about the actual attendance number, not the amount of tickets sold, as the pictures show a significant amount of empty seats.

I know that many people support the Kings and that there is a strong emotional connection to the Kings. But it seems to me that if you have to coordinate a night to demonstrate how a community supports a sports team, it is an indication that there is a significant lack of support. If a team was successful, a regular game should be all that is needed to demonstrate an area's commitment/loyalty to their team.

This on-again-off-again saga has grown tiresome, especially for those of us that aren't personally invested. I recognize that having a major league sports team is important to the area, but I struggle with the amount of attention and resources (especially from our Mayor) are being spend to keep a team here.

To all of the people stepping up with $1 million dollars to invest in the Kings, where were you when the city's pools and parks were being closed?

It's time for the Kings to go. We should support the teams that truly value the city (River Cats, I'm looking towards you) and look for other possibilities that might be a better match (I'm talking about MLS, not minor league soccer).

It also pisses me off that keith smart refuses to give him any minutes despite the fact that his defense and shooting percentages have improved dramatically this year. But, I don't know what everyone's talking when they keep saying his teamates hate him. He handles the ball almost every posession he plays. He also gets plenty of shots when he does play. The thing that pisses me off is that Sacramento GMs insist on keeping Jimmer and Isaiash. They need to pick one of them because they are both too talented to play 3rd string point gaurd.

Jimmer's teammates always have something good to say about him, especially Isaiah Thomas, who is supposedly his "competitor" for starting PG. Neither Jimmer nor Isaiah see each other that way, and have become very good friends. During the Summer League, while watching Jimmer score 30 points, Isaiah said in an interview that he was so glad to see Jimmer showing the confidence to be "the unstoppable scorer that we all know he is," and expressed what a good player Jimmer was, and how frustrated Isaiah was to see Jimmer struggle last year, knowing that he was better than that.

Demarcus cousins, King's Center tried to get Jimmer to be his room-mate last year, before Jimmer got married. All reports are that Jimmer fits in quite well, and that he is very well-liked. The ball-hogging on the court has been typical in the last few years on the Kings, but Coach Smart has been forcing A TON of team-building exercises on them, and they have all become really close. It shows in their play this year, as more people are passing. Given that Jimmer only shot 37% last year, they are not yet sure they can trust him... and it hasn't yet sunk in that he is shooting better than 50% this year. It will change. Just follow Jimmer's lead, and be patient, humble and understanding with teammates. Don't judge them!

R1lake, you are funny... At least... I hope you are being funny. I am not Jimmmer's relative... but you might have forgotten that there are over 100,000 BYU fans that watched Jimmer play.

BOTTOM LINE:
Jimmer fans: Smart is not abusing Jimmer. He's being cautious and playing the people who have been more proven than Jimmer. If Jimmer was playing like he started out last season, I would pick Thomas over him, too. Smart really likes Jimmer, and has talked about long-term plans to develop Jimmer into their starting PG. Give him time to see how much progress Jimmer has made. Jimmer's teammates LOVE him; he passes to them, and they speak well of him. Also, he is VERY good friends with Cousins and Thomas. They hang out. Just because Jimmer isn't playing 20 minutes a game doesn't mean the others hate him!

TO JIMMER HATERS: Jimmer isn't stellar on D, but he is much better than most people think. He has the 3rd-all-time record in steals at BYU, and anyway, his offense and passing skills are almost good enough to overlook any liability in D. (If averages hold, at 24 minutes, he would have 21 points, and a handful of dimes.) Beyond that, let the kid progress! He works HARD, just like at BYU. His Freshman year, he had 8 points/game, next year 16, next year 21, senior year 28. He's already scoring the same point averages as last year in LESS THAN HALF the time! Give him two more years, and I predict 12 points in 8 minutes as an average. Yes, I'm serious.

WTF are you talking about? Fredette is shooting better than 50% from the field is the best passer on the team and appears to be the one of the few team players on the Kings..If you are a real kings fan YOU would be pissed he is not seeing more time....maybe smarty is your father ?
AQs soon as fredette steps on the court there is an immediate improvement in ball movement and the flow of the game...Prediction. smartt is out of the NBA in 2yrs or less. Jimmer finds a REAL NBA team and flourishes.

Wow...I think maybe the Kings should grow up and give Jimmer a chance. I pray he finds a team that appreciates him. Players get so fat headed that they get gealous when they here the chants "Jimmer, Jimmer, Jimmer, Jimmer!" This isn't kindergarten ball people...These are grown adults acting like spoiled children. The coach needs serious replacing if he thinks its fair to bench Jimmer when he piled on points during his 8 minutes that should be 20 minutes a game. It should be based on points and team play which Jimmer masters at. Maybe they should bench these so called good players who won't pass to Jimmer just to be reminded that there is no I in team. It is sad that jeering people stretches beyond high school. I pray some of these wonderful players on his team read this and think twice about their actions along with the coach....This is a faith based sport. You need to have faith in all of your players even when they struggle to fit in. I will pray for them every night for they obviously know not what they do. As to Jimmer...keep showing them up bud...it's only a short time till your either traded or your contract is up and you can choose. If we see it than the world sees it. As to the comments that r_1lake made get over yourself..no one claims Jimmer is a victim He is doing awesome playing ball its the childish acts the coach and players are doing that gets us upset because they should know better. Be professional, after all they get paid for it. It should never be about selfishness but it should be about team work and having FUN!.

JIMMER!!!!! If he is on any other team he's getting 20 minutes. Scoring 15 a game..: look at his stats. 3 games 33 minutes 23 points 4 assists 2 steals 1 turnover. 58% 2FG 50% 3FG .. 100% free throws. I truly believe jimmer plays 30 minutes , he can be an elite guard.. Not incredible. But 18 pts 5 assists 2 steals, while shooting a good percentage and opening up the court. The stats are there. Now he just needs time. He's scoring 7.7 ppg in 8 minutes... While not being a ball hog! He opens the court people know he can shoot lights out

He has to improve on defense which i know he can. I do believe he is in a horrible situation in Sacramento. I do think there are factors players and coaching staff that hold Jimmer back. i wish he would get traded to a team that plays team basketball. you CANT build a "team" around guys like Thorton, Evans and Cousins. Has every necessary tool in place to be a standout point guard( Can drive shoot pass and has a Great court-sense) despite the fact his coach hates him and a lot of his teammates resent him...and wont pass him the ball.
I dont know why his agent doesnt get this kid out of this Horrible situation he is in.

This article states "Billings was unable to record the win though, as the score was still 1-1 when he was relieved." The reason Billings did not record the win is not because the score was 1-1 when he was relieved. He pitched three full innings, and the score was 2-1 at the bottom of the third inning. He was relieved at the top of the 4th inning. As the starter, he would have had to pitch five full innings in order for him to record the win. (See Rule 10.17 - Winning and Losing Pitcher). If he had pitched 5 full innings and the offense scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of 5, he would have recorded the win, not the pitcher relieving him in the top of the 6th.

The beleaguerment of the Sacramento Kings franchise has reached an unprecedented nadir. This year's "young, talented, up-and-coming" squad is on pace to finish the truncated 2011-12 campaign with a winning percentage on par, or worse, with the last three miserable seasons, which have been the worst since the team relocated from Kansas City in 1985.

The tepid afterglow of the recent guess-what-the-arena's-probably-gonna-happen-after-all news was predictably short-lived, as the bafflingly tone-deaf Maloof clan quickly reverted to their beyond-tired obstructionist nonsense, as the team steadfastly maintained the slide it began in 2006. That was the year the spectacular election-night trouncing of city-subsidized arena deal became a referendum on the complete indifference of the majority of Sactonians to ponying up to see a demoralizing crapshow.

Lost in all of this is one DeMarcus Cousins, a potentially bona fide NBA star around whom a team desperately in need of ticket sales and legitimacy could build an identity. As it stands, the safe bet is that DeMarcus is in daily discussions with his agent, exhausting any and all avenues toward a ticket out of Sacramento to an actual NBA team. You know, like Milwaukee or Charlotte.

This was the most exciting River Cats game I've ever been to. Watson, McPherson and Donaldson definitely surprised me in a game where Recker was on the DL and Wimberly was inactive. While Donaldson is the only one currently on the MLB 40-man roster, what is clear is that the River Cats have the talent and depth required to win innings, games, and even championships.

Michael,

They lifted the curtains up with about 15 minutes left in the workout, so I got to watch about 15 minutes of a 3 on 3 game. The most impressive was definitely Stanley Robinson, real solid outside shot. Samhan looked like he was pressing too hard... Tweety has a pretty sweet shot also, and is real quick.

Tiny Gallon is huge and a physical player in the paint... which the kings often lack... awesome name though, even though his first name is actually Keith I believe.

CURRY IS BETTER TYREKE DEFINITELY HAS SUPERSTAR POTENTIAL BUT HONESTLY CURRY IS THE BETTER PLAYER. YOU HAVE TO REALLY THINK ABOUT THE PEOPLE ON THE TEAMS. IF YOU HAVE NOTICED THERE ARE NOT THAT MANY "GOOD" PLAYERS ON SACREMENTO, BUT CURRY HAD ELLIS AND MAGGETTE WHO MAINLY HAD THE BALL. THE ONLY REASON WHY CURRY DIDN'T PUT UP THAT MANY 'BEGINNING-OF-THE YEAR' NUMBERS IS BECAUSE [A.] NELLIE GAVE HIM LITTLE TO KNOW PT, AND [B.] 70% OF THE TEAM ONLY PASSED MONTA THE BALL, AND THE OTHER 30% GAVE IT TO MAGGETTE. AND ALSO CURRY BROKE MORE RECORDS THAN TYREKE SO FAR...SO PLEASE PEOPLE LOOK AT BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY, DON'T BE BIASED AGAINST CURRY, LOOK INTO HIS STORY ! =D

I would just say this...if you could choose only one of them to start your team with who would you take based on how they performed their rookie years? I think the answer is clearly Curry.

Do a side by side comparison of all stats not just the "20-5-5 club" that continues to be mentioned in favor of Evans. If your doing the club thing what about Curry 30-10 club (5x), that no other rookie has done even once this year. Curry....3PT%(#8 in league) and free throw (#10 in league) for all players not just rookies. Did you see the game or at least headlines of the 42-9-8 performance last night.

Since it is a Rookie of the Year award, the whole season counts. Tyreke's numbers are what they are for the season. While I can see the final stretch statistics favor Curry, how about if we take a look at his overall season averages. When we compare apples to apples over the course of the year, what are those numbers?

Just seems that the award should go to the best proven talent in the rookie class this year. That is Curry. Evans gets the award for most consistent from start to finish (aka Good Attendance Award).

Let me enlighten you as to why Curry should be RotY. Its easy to demonstrate based on the fact that Curry just won his third Rookie of the Month award (v. two for Evans). For April:

Evans: 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.5 steals, 3.3 turnovers, percentages (.443, .200, .750)

Curry: 26.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 2.6 steals, 3.1 turnovers, percentages (.469, .472, .895)

Its been like this for months now...Curry has consistently dominated most statistical categories. Giving it to Evans is like giving him the Good Attendance Award in school. Yes it took Curry longer to find how he fit in with his team since Monte Ellis shared a similar niche...but ever since he figured it out his statistics dominate Evans' statistics. You can make Rookie of the Year into the Good Attendance Award if you like...but it doesn't change the fact that the biggest proven talent in this rookie class so far is Curry...and its not close.
