In order to take cation, I believe I simply need feedback. I actually didn't know there was controversy surrounding the matter. I don't remember an unsafe or unsavory Midtown. I operate from the position that Midtown is a fantastic place now, and can only improve through forms of collective community-building that further the area's social and economic interests. That said, I suppose I never really considered a pub crawl to be a bad thing. I can see how it could be. In this case it was not. Perhaps coverage of such events should be more carefully constructed so as not to undermine the hard work long-time residents have put in to cause the area to be as great as it is today. I'd love to find out, perhaps through a survey or through a community forum, exactly what kinds of event ideas long-term residents would be in favor of. When that information is available, more effective community event planning can occur. How about an art crawl where people can go from gallery to gallery and not only see and purchase the art on display, but also meet the artists and even participate in mini workshops where they learn about particular forms and make pieces of their own? Combine it with a sort of passport and map, and a game could be created. Perhaps just like the Foursquare pub crawl, a social media application such as Foursquare could be used to direct traffic, show trending galleries, offer tips, and allow for check-ins. First in talking with SacPress staff about this issue they caution that writers can get themselves all worked up over something than no one can really know where these negatives come from or mean. She has no affiliation with FCE. City gal let me show you how much I have my story straight..... Danielle coached the Wolverine Girls in 2007. They left the Wolverines prior to the 2008 season to cheer for the Lions. Cheer Sacramento then became the cheerleaders for the Wolverines (now Gators). After the Lions lost their owner to the gators organization, they became the placer county bears and did not have a cheer team, because Danielle again took her cheerleaders to a semi pro football team still in the Sacramento area that did have an owner, the Cobras. After one season with them, the owner went bankrupt and the Cobras were no longer a team. Last season Danielle moved her team to Stockton Trojans, the whole while being asked to come back to the Bears now that their new ownership and winning team had become secure. They have proven to be a stable team with owners who won't let their football team go anywhere, as Danielle has faced multiple times now. It is VERY common in the semi pro arena for owners to be in debt trying to support their organizations. Erlynn started her team the MTG after ties with FCE were cut. Ahsan... guess your "allegations" of emails you claimed to have but then claimed to never have seen were in fact false. It is common throughout the industry for teams to offer both a team of participants who perform on the field/court/sideline as well as a group who participate in promotions for the team and sometimes in support of the community. This is due in large part to numbers. It is simply not feasable to put 50+ participants on the field for every game. Having a promotions team allows for more team members the chance to participate and be a part of an organization. Whether the two groups have different or multiple names is really irrelevant because they have the same purpose.. to promote a team, organization and community and to come together to share their love of dance and stunting. Both cheerleaders and dancers have a hard enough time proving themselves to be a reputable sport and not classified as a group of catty women like the stereotype often perceives. Bickering because of your personal feelings toward the organization or its director do not help prove our sport to be anything other than that stereotype we are trying to fight. Take a step back and support each other because we all have the same goal in mind.
