KTXL FOX40 To Debut Two New Digital Channels

Sacramento's FOX affiliate KTXL will soon take a third stab at launching a digital channel. A person close to the matter at the station confirmed KTXL "FOX40" will launch the Retro Television Network, a channel showcasing repeats of old television comedies and dramas, on the station's digital channel 40.2 within the next few months. The Retro Television Network, branded as "RTV," airs programming from the 1950s to the 1980s, mostly licensed by NBC Universal. Among the shows RTV currently airs, and KTXL is expected to air, include Leave It To Beaver and Dragnet. RTV will be the third attempt at launching a digital channel on KTXL FOX40. CBS Radio Drops "The Zone," Relaunches As "NOW 100.5"

For the third time in less than a year, a Sacramento radio station has undergone a rebranding -- but out of the three stations to rebrand, this station isn't flipping formats. KZZO, formerly known on-air as "100.5 The Zone" relaunched Wednesday morning as "NOW 100.5," a station that promises to play fresh pop-rock music, separating itself from the Top 40 genre that often includes R&B and rap music. KZZO expects to continue to play music from artists including Train, Daughtry, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Landmark Iceland Skating Rink Destroyed By Fire

A 70-year-old Sacramento landmark is no more after the iconic Iceland Skating Rink was destroyed by a five-alarm blaze early Sunday morning.  Firefighters responded to the skating rink around 3:30am Sunday.  Within an hour of responding, the blaze grew to five alarms, triggering a massive firefighting response from throughout Sacramento. Firefighters had contained most of the blaze by 8:00am. Light rail service and street traffic was disrputed for a short time Sunday morning near the intersection of Arden Way and Del Paso Boulevard in North Sacramento. Mayor Kevin Johnson Engaged To DC-Area Educator

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Washington, D.C. Schools Chancelllor Michelle Rhee are engaged to wed. Few details were released, but the Mayor did issue a statement. "This is an exciting time in our lives and I feel truly blessed," Johnson commented in a public statement issued Friday. "Michelle is an amazing person, and I could not be happier." Rhee, who served on the Mayor's St. Hope Academy before leaving for Washington, D.C., is divorced and has two children. Sac King's Andreas Nocioni Arrested For DUI

Sacramento Kings forward Andreas Nocioni has been released from the Sacramento County Jail after being arrested on DUI charges early Thursday morning. Nocioni's vehicle was pulled over by Sacramento Police around 2:00am Thursday near the section of 9th and L Streets in Sacramento. Officers say they detected a strong odor of alcohol in Nocioni's vehicle and ask him to take a breathalyzer test. It's unclear what Nocioni's blood alcohol level was. Nocioni was seen leaving the Sacramento County Jail after posting bail shortly after 9:00am. Despite persistent questions from the media, Nocioni declined to comment. Jury Awards $16mil In Damages To Radio Station Contestant's Family

A jury has awarded more than $16 million to the family of an individual who died from injuries after participating in a radio station water drinking contest. The family of radio station contestant Jennifer Strange was awarded $16,577,118 after a jury concluded Entercom Sacramento, who operates KDND 107.9 "The End," was negligent after ignoring several warnings that a morning show contest could have fatal consequences. The parent company of a local radio station engaged in the first day of a wrongful death lawsuit after a contestant died on a morning drive program more than two years ago. Entercom Communications Corporation, owner of six radio stations including KDND 107.9 FM "The End," was slapped with a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family of Jennifer Strange, a contestant in the station's "Hold Your Wee For A Wii" promotion in January 2007. Fans of a popular Top 40 music station have nothing to worry about -- KDND 107.9 FM "The End" isn't dropping their popular music format, they're just dropping the commercials. On Tuesday, KDND announced on their Twitter.com page that the station was going to "say goodbye" to something on the station. Three companies have decided to pull their advertisement support from KRXQ 98.5, better known on-air as "98Rock," following a controversial discussion about transgendered children on the station's breakfast show "Rob, Arnie & Dawn." KWOD Flips Formats, Becomes "The Buzz"

One of two dedicated rock stations in Sacramento has bid adieu to the alternative music format. KWOD 106.5 FM, which had been broadcasting alternative music since 1991, relaunched Friday morning under a new format that plays hits from the 1990s — expanding its genre to include rock, pop, alternative, dance, conteporary urban R&B and more. Along with a format flip come new call signs and a new nickname: KBZC 106.5 FM "The Buzz." The format flip isn't so much because people aren't tuning in, but instead because the alternative rock format is failing as a business model.
