NCAC is Teaming Up for 2011

Teams, teams and more teams! It’s not a novelty concept when it comes to raising charity dollars. Drawing strength in numbers, allying forces and forming teams creates not only a more fun and competitive atmosphere but certainly adds up to a greater means. Whether it be veteran Teams Space 07 & Team Kaiser Permanente, the Mass of Team CARES, Team Breaking Barriers, the money-making dynamic machine of Team One, Team Badlands/SacGLBT, the Pavement Posse, or just plain Team Awesome, the 2011 NorCal AIDS Cycle has more to offer this year than ever before. More people, means more parties, means more fun, raising more dollars. And yes that more often than not does include cocktails, wine, b

Sacramento's Premiere HIV/AIDS Cycling Event Celebrates Success at Hot Italian By NCAC Board Member Heather Rowan NorCal AIDS Cycle (formerly NorCal AIDS Challenge) puts on an annual 2 or 4-day bicycle ride that participants produce and take part in each May. In May, 2010, NCAC had nearly 60 cyclists and 35 crew who took to the roads of the Greater Sacramento Valley, the foothills, and cycled through the scenic Cache Creek area. Participants raised funds through grass-roots efforts and with the help of our generous sponsors, the ride was a fabulous success. Riders and crew alike reported that the NCAC was a life-changing experience and they have forged friendships that will last a lifeti

UPSers Giving Back to the Community and Making a Difference: By Elizabeth Loud

On Wednesday, April 14, 2010, UPS presented a $6,000 grant to the NorCal AIDS Challenge (NCAC). The NCAC is an annual 4-day, 340 mile bicycle challenge. Donations raised by the NCAC go to local HIV/AIDS organizations such as Breaking Barriers, CARES, and the AIDS Housing Alliance. These great local organizations strive to educate the public about, and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, as well as provide support services for those already living with the AIDS virus.  Northern California District Workforce Planning Specialist Elizabeth Loud has participated in the NCAC for the last five years and has seen this event grow. The first year of the NCAC attracted only 17 cyclists.  However, this y

Space 07 Salon is Cutting for a Cause

Typically getting your haircut is quite a self-serving experience. Those of you who are familiar with Stockton's famous, or rather not so famous, indie rock group Pavement might recall the "Cut Your Hair" lyrics "Darling won't you go and cut your hair...do you really think it's gonna make any change." It dawned on me that not very often you can get a haircut and can actually be impacting someone else or your own community. This Sunday, April 18, from 11 AM-5 PM Space 07 Salon (located at 1421 R Street, Sacramento, CA 95814) will be hosting a cut-a-thon featuring 25 of the finest hairstylists in Sacramento.   Salon cuts are $25 and barber shop cuts are $15.  The event will also include a r
