Sorry, I just getting to this. I must have missed it sorry. Simplicity, leads to purity> Outside
of organic fruits, berries, nutella, ice cream that people request. I want to keep the 165 year old
waffle as is and none commercial or franchise oriented. Just because it is Belgian doesn't make
it a slam dunk, I'v e had many waffles in Europe, that are mediocre. There is much beauty in simplicity

I don't see how people can be so closed minded about a circus that has been around for the longest in history.... Not only am I proud of my friend, who is the head chef, Michael Vaughn, for becoming who he is today, but of education his daughter with evern experience from one state to the next. She is a very well-rounded little girl-at 6 yrs. old, who has seen each state, foreign entertainers, etc.. She has participated in so many activities beyond her wildest dreams.
I only wish i could have the courage to do as Michael did to take that first step to join the family of Barnum and Bailey, Ringling Bros. Circus......... I knew when he was approx. 21-22 yrs. that he had a hidden talent of baking, cooking- -everything that had to do with cooking. He has made me proud to have known him as he was growing up and proud of him now.
As for the animals, when has anyone seen a train such as the one that they travel on, that has the animals out in the weather. . The animals are very much part of this circus and are protected just as much as the humans are....Why expose the animals to mother nature when most of them are the stars of the show??? Relax, go to a circus and enjoy yourselves........

I am very much looking forward to the opening of this place! I am very excited about the prospect of opening a German beer hall but I must admit I am slightly worried about the twists and additions of this project. I hope it is more on the traditional side as opposed to art nouveau. Just keep it simple guys: cold beer, good sausage, a friendly environment and the people will come!

I say leave the local IPAs, Red Ales, and Stouts and the whole lot out, these can be found any other local bar and simply take up tap spots that can be given to Spaten, Hacker-Pschorr, and of course Löwenbräu (which by name I feel you must have).

Also I feel the "bar" program should be a second thought. You don't open a beer hall to serve cocktails. Keep it limited to schnapps, certain Aperol drinks, Jaegermeister, and certain fruit brandies.

Niche is key here guys!

PS If you decide to open Saturday & Sunday mornings to show soccer matches, which nobody else does and is a niche that needs to be filled (soccer plus beer at 8am is heaven), you have a bartender in me ready and excited to work!

I like when I go to a restaurant, ask what they recommend, and they know in an instant what to recommend. It means they know their food. Their rice was in between fried and steamed; very good. Great service. Going back tonight.

On Friday, I observed the signature verification process. While interesting, (for about 5 minutes) my guess is that about 10% to 15% of the ballots are put into the "challenge" category because the VBM signature doesn't match the original VBM registration. This categorization is made by county employees, not by the candidate's representatives.

I'm sure that the voter who submits a ballot that is "challenged" by a county worker will never know that their vote didn't count. Some signatures don't match at all, maybe filled out and signed out by a spouse or parent, clearly unacceptable. Some signatures are closer, maybe scribbled quickly or how one signs has changed over the years. At the polling place, you're certain your vote counts. By mail, you can never be sure.

What I learned: avoid submitting a VBM unless you're certain your signature will match what's on file. When did you create the original signature? When you were 18 and are now 32? Were you in a rush to the finish the ballot and signed differently? Of course the idea of VBM is great, but the system is far from perfect.

(BTW, my post in not way should be disparaging of the county workers; they seemed to take their jobs very seriously).

Regardless, lets hope that one of the D4 candidates wins by more than 1%! (200 - 250 votes). I believe, though not certain, that if the 1% threshold is not reached there will be an automatic recount. I can't imagine reviewing all of the challenged ballots and bickering over signatures and "voter's intent."

Sorry... but as a regular and neighbor of BIU, the food was not good. I tried 15-20 entrees on the menu between 2005 and 2011 and there weren't any worth talking about afterwards. We came for the beer and avoided the food, except for a couple of decent appetizers. I often brought friends since BIU was 2 blocks away and none of them liked the food either. So, if you can't handle the truth about your food and the fact that it likely contributed to to the downturn of the business, you really might want to rethink your approach this time around if you add food.

Take a gander at your 188 reviews on yelp "The food didn't really stand out much and it was basically your typical bar food," "Overpriced and not that great. "The food is OK, but I've definitely had a better burger at Carl's Jr." "The food is pretty typical. Nothing super special about it" - And, those are just 4 out of the last 8 reviews.

On a positive note: I loved the beer and the micro-brewing in house option. And, I really look forward to your return to the Sacramento area!

I don't think anyone but the Press Clubn's owners "banned" concerts there--they just oscillated between being strictly DJs and having bands. The scene oscillates sometimes--the early 90s were fairly hopping, then things died down for a while and now they're on the upswing again. It is annoying to us broken-down old men that so much is happening when we hit the age when sleep is as appealing as seeing a great band, but don't let that stop you. I wasn't the only greybeard at Ace of Spades last night enjoying GWAR, althouigh they're probably feeling it today like I am. It's good to see so much growth and interest in the local music scene. Let's just hope it is sustainable in the long run, rather than a flash in the pan.

Back then, they did stuff like ban concerts at the Press Club so they could stick a couple of pool tables where the stage used to be. And places like Ace Of Spades or even KBar or The Park?
Live music is so vital to the health of a community in so many ways - arts of all type are & should be fostered and tollerated to a reasonable level. Be is South Street Philly, 6th Street Austin, Bourbon Street New Orleans, Duvall Street Key West, Filmore St SF or J Street Sacramento - Live music can create such an exciting atmosphere and center for commerce - I am glad the Police are being responsible and not over cautious in their support of the community wishes. - Support Local Music, Support Live Music - the ability for a group of individuals playing actual instruments to be able to survive and perform is getting harder and harder - Harlows helps in a big way keeping the wheel turning! - Scott Holbrook, Keep Smilin' Promotions

An effort to leverage restrictions on Harlow's ability to operate/sell alcohol as a music venue is an effort to harm the local music scene and limit the number of touring bands that will play in Sacramento. There is simply no way around this fact, and people who claim to "love Sacramento" or "want to better Sacramento" need to seriously consider this before embarking on such misguided crusades.

Many new riders on Bike-Share would be victims of unsafe Sacramento drivers, legally. When we provide a public Bike-Share it has to be on a safe system on public streets. Tell Governor Brown to approve a safer 3-foot passing law, initiating a safer Bike-Share possibility.

For starters, they made it clear from the beginning that they were opening a gun store, and applied for all the permits that a gun store needs (including via BATF and the local police department), rather than trying to reopen as Cornerstone Restaurant (the business in that building before the gun store went in) and claiming they were a restaurant that just happened to also sell guns in addition to their regular business. If that was the case, it would be a little shady if a nearby neighborhood association asked for the city to let them slide on proper permitting requirements because of their importance to Sacramento's community of firearms owners.

Cities more urban and sophisticated than Sacramento, have the sense to adopt Conditional Use Permits which govern late night operating establishments of all kinds and clearly define local city department roles. Check that out instead of meaningless comments. These permits are more definitive and restrictive than ABC's, reduce opportunity for crime and law enforcement costs related to those establishments and protect both nearby businesses and residents.

Voice of reason is correct and spoke person statements for the Marshall School Association are confused.. If an alcohol seller does not want to be held responsible for a Type 47 Eating Place license requirements then all it has to do is apply for a Type 48 which is a nightclub license but can still sell food if it chooses to do so. Of course, those licenses are FAR more expensive and the city is obligated to invoke the long standing Public Necessity and Convenience Codes, as it did with the Mermaid Bar downtown. It's called everyone follows the rules. But most alcohol license applicants in Midtown want to and get away with "doing it on the cheap."

I'm not an gun advocate but it could be that the gun store's hours are typical of other retail establishments and crime related history to that location and store, is sparse if not non-existent. If alcohol selling "restaurants" operated the hours according to National Restaurant Association standards instead of bar/club hours, they, like other dinner houses, would have little to no "struggle." BTW alcohol licenses are RARELY revoked permanently--state alcohol lobbyists are too powerful for that to happen--and licensees know that very well..

Check out item 16 for A bona fide eating place "Food Requirements"

http://www.abc.ca.gov/FORMS/ABC608.pdf

Is Harlows a night club/bar or a restaurant w/ a lounge?

One requires a Type 48 license (no person under 21 allowed) while the other requires only a type 47 (anyone). The current license being processed for transfer is a type 47.

"Type 41, 47, and 49 licensees must operate and maintain their licensed premises as a bona fide
eating place"

That's not PD's opinion or request, that's the law!

"The Department will presume that a licensee is operating as a bona fide eating place if the gross
sales of food prepared and sold to guests on the premises exceeds the gross sales of alcoholic
beverages. “Prepared” means any processing preliminary to the final serving of food. (Note:
Some licensees have a “conditional” license that requires food sales to be 50% or more of the total gross sales.)

So how do concert event ticket sales figure into that "gross sales" figure? So why don't the new owners obtain the night club/bar type-48 permit?

Harlow's has evolved, isn't it time that it's license catches up with its evolution?

Anybody check out the resume of one of the new managing partners?

If the city does, it is code enforcement who should be providing information to the ABC and not advocating a position much less deciding what it will allow a business to do.

Cornerstone was around in the 1980s and 90s, and it was already a hipster dive then. On Sundays you had to wake up early to get there before noon, or you'd have to spend a half-hour or more smoking cloves outside, waiting for a table with a crowd of people mostly hung over and still wearing whatever they wore to the previous night's show.
