The tour has just been extended till June 14, so it's not too late to book a show! And, I do want to add to the reference to Rotary, that Active 20-30 Club #1 in Sacramento also played a large role in sponsoring shows this year, University of Phoenix, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation also sponsored some workshops and an assembly, 3 Soroptimists Clubs, Optimists, the Any Given Child program through Friends of the Arts Commission, as well as some very special individuals. It truly is overwhelming to witness these groups and inviduals rallying to bring this experience to kids. Kudos to the TEACHERS, too, who give their students the opportunity to express their creativity through writing for our contest!!! Without the contest entries, we wouldn't have a tour! One cannot underestimate how this truly is a "community" experience. Alison Whismore

My students have been entering this contest for 6 years. It's an event that the 5th and 6th graders look forward to every year. Not only are they learning to write dialogue, they are using all of their creativity to come up with the funniest writing that I see all year. Cudos to our Josh Golden! So proud to be his teacher.
Galena is a part of me! Since the days of watching my Dad play trumpet in the live band, to my Mom helping change backstage, to watching my older siblings perform until it was my turn to take the stage! Performing was great but the people, the places, the experiences, and the lifelong friendships that shaped me as a person is what I will never forget! In fact, to celebratethe my 40th birthday this year I met with some of my closest Galenat buddies in Lake Tahoe for a reunion. I now live in Colorado and pray to find a Galena for my four girls!

As an alumni of the group from the late 70's early 80's who now has a daughter in the group I can testify that the lessons learned while in the group helped form me as a person. The performing was great and the show always well-produced gave us a opportunity to showcase our talents but Galena is so much more. I learned there is 'no such word as can't'-- I could do it if I had desire, discipline and determination. And by doing so each success built the confidence I needed to progress even further. Unity, learning to work with many different people, doing your best, life long friendships, and sacrifice while still maintaining standards of modesty and decency (hard to find in today's performing world) were all learned during the few short years I performed with Galena.
Our yearly tours around the world helped broaden our horizons and see how similar we are as people though our language different. Music and dance have a way of reaching beyond those barriers and bonding us. Those moments are some of our most treasured memories. I'm happy my daughter is now having the same experiences - Galena is going into its 42nd year - it has lasted that long for many reasons - I feel blessed to have been a part of it.

I've kind of been out of touch with the Sacramento dance scene for some time, and it's great to see Pamela Hayes is still schooling some of our best local dancers in the fine art of ballet. For those of you not familiar with the sport, it is HARD. And beautiful at the same time. At least one of Pamela's students went on to dance for the prestigious London Ballet. From the looks of these picks, she hasn't lost her touch.

I was fortunate enough to see this show. My trek involved a long drive from Los Angeles, dropping off my two-year-old twins with my soon-to-be brother-in-law in Novato and then driving up to Davis with my sister and landing in our seats one minute before Elvis Costello took the stage.
Mr. Costello did not disappoint...even when he stopped in the middle of his third song, removed his ear-piece and started over again.
I found him most compelling when he sang a capella. It was a wonderful performance.
One of my favorite aspects of the show was the format whereby he made the song selections based upon his personal preferences.
My only criticism is reserved for the man who sat two rows behind us and yelled "The Comedian" over and over between songs in the show. When Elvis Costello told us that he was going to play a song that he has never recorded, the crowd fell silent...except for the ass hat who wanted to hear "The Comedian," he decided that would be a great time to have a not-so-hushed conversation with his date.
Elvis Costello was wonderful. The tool who sat behind me was not.

Kevin King’s “The Idea Man,”is playing at the California Stage in Sacramento! This funny drama, produced by Ray Tatar, is directed by Penny Kline with such detail and specificity, that you think you are part of the corporate office too! Veteran actor Loren Taylor cleverly plays Al with such wit and charm, you really believe he’s a mechanical savant, full of ideas and holding back the highly sought after plans to make a company machine work! Charlie Holliday plays the perfect corporate executive, rationalizing his every move. Idea Man gets even funnier with Elly award winning actors Eric Baldwin, Michele Koehler, Christina Clem West Ramsey, Nicholas Koehler, and Jawara Duncan. Eric Baldwin as Frank, the company architect, is so desperate to get the plans for the machine that he does things that no executive would imagine doing. Baldwin’s acting is impeccable and you laugh the minute you see his expressions. Michele Koehler plays a very clever and funny Francine Carson in her high heels, especially when she takes the stakes to a level that will leave you speechless.	Christine Clem plays Maureen Thompson in a very believable manner; further creating obstacles for her husband Frank. Finally the three other company employees Gino, played by West Ramsey, Doyle played by Jawara Duncan, and Bobby, played by Nicholas Koehler add to the hilarious but true rift between management and union employees. This important entertaining play is not to be missed. There is some profanity and better suited for adults but 12 and older are welcome. Set designs are by Linda McLaughlin, Kurt Kurtis, costumes by Julie Dahl, set construction by Buzz Weitz and Mural by Lily Moon. “The Idea Man” runs through Mar 17, 2012. Don’t miss this one.
Titillating? Some. Charming-- a lot. I liked the historical insight into life at the beginning of electrical appliances, the delight of being able to turn on lights with a switch. (And off. And on again. Amazing!)
And then there are insights into the scientific knowledge and cultural accepted truths at that same time. And a demonstration of what women can accomplish-- gleefully-- when they join forces.

Wonderful cast, well worth seeing. By adults.

FYI - I followed the B Street press release when writing the "Just the Facts" and caption info. Unfortunately, there was a typo in it. The correct spelling of Stephanie Altholz's co-star in "Aliens With Extraordinary Skills" is Rinabeth Apostol. My apologies to Rinabeth!

Also, the Family Series show pictured in the slideshow should be "Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!" That one is on me!

I don't see how having a modicum of carry-on accessories can prevent one's eating of sold-out-halfway-through-the-day, drving-from-Rio-Linda-to-get-some cupcakes. Cupcakes are, after all, superior to cake in that their proportions are delicately balanced and personalized. You must have another reason you're not stating - which is fine, understand... but don't feed me this line about the camera bag. It doesn't even make any sense.
