If you’re a fan of Hula-Hoops and a variety of local food, wine and beer, then the Sacramento Zoo’s 10th annual King of Feasts Wine and Food Luau – which will be held Saturday at the zoo – is for you. “The luau is held all over the zoo,” Tonja Swank, public relations coordinator for the Sacramento Zoo, said of the 21-and-over event. “We line the different restaurants, wineries and breweries along different areas of the zoo. Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, June 4th for the Doggy Dash, or as it is now being referred to as the "Soggy Dash!" It may have rained ALL day, but despite everything, the event raised more than $170,000 for the animals at the Sacramento SPCA. We were amazed (and proud!) of the number of pet lovers who braved the weather with us! We hope to see everyone next year, for the 19th Annual Doggy Dash in 2012. Horses originally bred to carry the nobility of Europe to war now have a more peaceful and entertaining vocation – they will be dancing and performing in Power Balance Pavilion June 18. The “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions perform in their “Dancing White Stallions” show that recounts their history as well as the cultures of various European countries, including Austria, Slovenia and Spain, said show producer Gary Lashinsky. “All of our horses were bought from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna,” Lashinsky said. The one-hour and 45-minute show is a choreographed dance of 12-14 Lipizzaner Stallions, and it also includes demonstrations of maneuvers riders would have performed in battle

Meet Stanley! This eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mix is quite the character! He is very sweet and chatty- loves to tell you about his day! A somewhat active adult home will be best for Stanley (he is not a fan of little kids!). He is OK with cats and tends to ignore other dogs, so he'd be fine as "an only child." He has a long silky coat, but he's used to being combed, so he won't require more than a couple of minutes a day to stay well groomed. In fact, Stanley has some quirky hobbies too- he enjoys running in the sprinklers and taking baths! Fair hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at the Sacramento Cat Hospital, 4115 Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael. All fair proceeds will benefit the Sacramento Cat Hospital Foundation Benevolent Fund, established to provide treatment for injured, sick, and feral cats. Meet the Chuckster! At about a year-old, this Jack Russell Terrier mix is SO unique looking! He loves to run, play tug-o-war  and enjoys going for walks. Meet Petunia! This sweet, six-year-old American Bulldog mix is waiting anxiously for her forever home! Petunia loves walks, is house trained AND gets along with children. Meet Zoie! Zoie is a young girl, only eleven-months, with lots of energy! She is a Hound mix, so she needs some consistent training to be the best dog she can be, but responds well to calm, positive reinforcement trianing. Like most hounds, she spends lots of time with her nose to the ground, but also likes to interact with people. She should be the only dog in a cat-free home, and would do well with older children. Meet Herbie! Herbie is a very well mannered and gentle cat, who had his first morning TV debut and did really well, considering the lights and cameras! If you are looking for a cuddly lap cat, Herbie might be just the guy for you. He’s pretty unique in that he doesn’t have any teeth! Herbie came into the shelter with a bad mouth infection and had to have all of his teeth pulled. However, he is fully functional and remarkable (he’s learned to gum his kibble and he also eats wet food). If this eight-year-old love bug sounds like a great cat for you, come pay him a visit!

Looking for a new best friend? Meet Norman! At one-and-a-half years old, Norman is a social, happy, fun-loving American Bulldog. This big boy knows how to use a dog door, loves riding in the car and knows how to sit and stay on command. Norman loves to play, but because of his size (he’s almost 88lbs!) he will do best with a family that is active, home often, and has older children.
