The Sacramento River Cats faced off against their division rival the Tucson Padres on a hot Sunday afternoon at Raley Field. The Tucson Padres were quiet for the first four innings as the River Cats’ starting pitcher Tyson Ross kept them without a hit. In the first inning the River Cats looked strong, as Jermaine Mitchell started off the River Cats’ bottom of the inning with a double. Collin Cowgill followed with a walk and Josh Donaldson singled to left field. With the bases loaded and nobody out, prospects looked good for a high-scoring first inning. Kila Ka'aihue registered the first out as he popped to second base. Michael Taylor reached first on a fielding error and Mitchell sc
Sacramento outfielder Brandon Moss reached the 1,000th minor-league hit in Thursdays 5-1 victory over the Padres. The top of the first inning proved eventful as the Padres' first batter, left fielder Daniel Robertson, was hit by the pitcher in the left shoulder. Second baseman Everth Cabrera was out after lining out to River Cats short stop Adam Rosales. Right fielder Sawyer Carroll hit a fly into a double play, which was caught by right fielder River Cats' Jermaine Mitchell. He then threw to first baseman Chris Carter taking Padres' Robertson out on first. The River Cats also started off with a bang in the bottom of the first as their first hitter, right fielder Jermaine Mitchell, hit a
The Sacramento River Cats clinched their 10th PCL South Division title in 12 seasons with an 15-2 victory against the host Tucson Padres on Tuesday night. The River Cats are the first team in major American professional sports (MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL) to win 10 division championships this century. Sacramento has also matched the Pacific Coast League record for consecutive division titles with five. The Albuquerque Isotopes are the only other team in league history to win five division titles in a row, accomplishing the feat between 1987 and 1991. Sacramento struck for three runs in the first inning and starter Travis Banwart made that lead hold up, allowing two runs (none earned) over seve
Even though half of the River Cats starting lineup began their season with Oakland, it was a former River Cat that helped make the difference in the game. Steve Tolleson and the other top three hitters in the batting order in the Tucson Padres lineup collected 12 of their 18 hits in a 12-7 win over the River Cats on Thursday evening at Raley Field. Tolleson’s not sure about the Padres plans for him. Whether he gets the call or not, he’s just happy to be playing everyday. “I don’t really know too much,” said the 27-year old from Spartanburg, South Carolina. “At the time of the trade, they were struggling up there as a team with their utility players, but I’m just here having a good time
Despite a solid defensive effort and a strong start, the River Cats were defeated by the Reno Aces in the final third game of a four game series at Raley Field Monday night, with a final score of 9-2. The night was off to a good start for the River Cats, with short stop Eric Sogard scoring off a single from center fielder Matt Carson and bringing the score to 1-0 at the top of the second. But the Aces answered back quickly. Short stop Cody Ransom made it to second base off a fly ball to left fielder Adrian Cardena, and right fielder Cole Gillespie hit a single to send Ransom home, tying up the game in the second inning. The teams remained tied throughout the uneventful third inning, but
The Sacramento River Cats lost yet another home game to the Tucson Padres Monday night. Even though the Cats took the lead in the second inning the Padres soon caught up in both the fifth and sixth innings, leaving the Padres with a 7-5 victory. At the top of the first inning, leadoff Everth Cabrera walked. Left fielder, Cedric Hunter batted next only to be grounded out by Cats shortstop Eric Sogard. Second baseman Logan Forsythe took bat and flew out to center fielder, Matt Carson making two outs for the Padres.
