Edible Pedal, a bike shop with a delivery service is having a bike swap today in the alley parking lot next to Cheap Thrills at 17th and L. It is free to the puplic and there will be a $10 fee to vendors that goes to the Sacramento Bike Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides help educating its public on bike mechanics and self reliance via the bicycle. The swap has a slant toward the bicycle commuter and tourist with the purpose of increasing their numbers and to encourage current commuters to bring a friends who are contemplating bike commuting and touring. Saturday, the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen and the Friends of Fremont Park are holding the inaugural Sacramento Bicycle Swap Meet in Midtown. The swap meet, which is planned to be an annual event, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fremont Park, located on the block bordered by P, Q, 15th and 16th street. Vendors will set up shop, trading and selling bicycles and accessories. One man's trash will become another man's treasure on Saturday morning, and some might find the diamond in the rough they have been looking for. Israeli music, the sound of pounding drums, and the smell of Mediterranean food lingered in the air as crowds mingled among white tents at the west steps of the Capitol yesterday afternoon. More than 3,000 people participated in Sacramento’s first Jewish Heritage festival yesterday despite the unpredictable weather, according to the Sacramento Jewish Federation. The festival, presented by the federation, began with a “Salute to Israel @ 61 Walk-a-thon,” consisting of a “walk for unity” around the Capitol. The Sacramento Bike Kitchen (SBK) has been open for a week and the buzz is all over town. A DIY bike workshop that spreads bike culture with its unique approach to getting 'er done. Volunteers help YOU know your bike by showing you how to fix and maintain it. The result is that you are much more at cause over your 2 wheeled friend NOT the effect. Your affinity skyrockets for all things bicycling and simply cannot go anywhere unless it's on a bike. Well alright thats a little over the top but I hope you get my point. Its party time come this Second Saturday. You see the Sacramento Bike Kitchen has a new center and we are throwing a grandopening party. The Bike Kitchen otherwise known as SBK is a nonprofit org(501(c)3) with the intention of keeping you on your bike and more importantly creating more advocates who create a more bike friendly community, one bike at a time. Heres how it works. For a small fee you can have someone show YOU how to fix and maintain your bicycle. A sort of teach a man to fish philosophy. We survive on donations such as unused bikes and bike parts. Unused, tools, and bike stands are gladly accepted as well. 2 hats we are wearing is the recycler and educational center for all t
