I could type several paragraphs about house fires, telling how cooking equipment is the leading cause of home structure fires and human injuries, as well as the third leading cause of home fire deaths. Midtown Apt Fire Knocked Down Quickly

A midtown 9-story apartment complex for elderly and disabled residents caught on fire around 6:15pm Monday night in the 1800 block of Capitol Ave. Apparently the Capitol Terrace Apartment building exploded and fire ignited from a first floor unit. Smoke was pouring from the building when two SacMac photographers arrived on the scene. Sacramento Metro Fire Battalion Chief Niko King said firefighters realized that disabled and elderly tenants would need help exiting the building. King said the fire crew learned that some people were trapped on the second floor. Everyone exited safely. Three complained of smoke inhalation. Pillow Pets Delivered to UC Davis Children's Hospital

Over 100 children were the happy recipients of Pillow Pets delivered by Sacramento Metro Fire Dept. The fire department assisted Pillow Pets for Life founder Kara Kateley with the delivery of 350 pillow pets to the UC Davis Children’s Hospital for current and future patients. July 2011, Metro Fire announced a partnership with Pillow Pets for Life, a non-profit organization focused on bringing comfort to hospitalized children. Since July, the public has been able to drop off pillow pets at any Metro fire station. Firefighting Camp for Kids

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District sponsors an annual four-day camp. Each day of camp 11, 12, and 13 year old kids are given a chance to see and learn the varied disciplines of today’s fire service. They were shown a demonstration of an auto extrication and a Combat Challenge "firefighter physical fitness challenge".  The youngsters were taught how to handle a fire hose, how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to climb ladders. And then they put those skills to use under supervision. Budget cuts impact resources for major hazmat incident in South Sacramento

Sacramento, CA | A level 3 Hazmat situation shuts down a large industrial area in South Sacramento. Budget weakend hazmat team has to reach out with unusual mutual aid requests.  Wednesday morning, the Sacramento City Fire Department was called to Mike and Sons Inc, in the 8500 block of Elder Creek Road, for a commercial trailer fire. When firefighters arrived “they realized the doors were shut and there was a very pungent odor; so they turned this into a level three hazmat which is the highest level of hazmat response that we have”, Niko King, Assistant Chief for Sacramento City Fire Department stated. Sac Metro Fire assists with Roseville Grass Fire

An intense, wind-fed grass fire near Roseville had multiple agencies on the scene, including Sacramento Metropolitan Fire, near  Phillip Road near Fiddyment just west of Roseville, and just south of Baseline Rd. The fire began blazing just before 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Apparently the origin of the blaze was traced to a bird hitting a power line. This segment of the fire is near a Roseville Power plant along  Phillip Rd . It was knocked down successfully, Fire crews were staged along Phillip Rd.
