Photos: First Naked Lounge show of 2011

The first show of 2011 at Naked Lounge Downtown took place Saturday and featured performances by Sacramento artists Adrian Bourgeois, Ricky Berger, One Eyed Rhyno, Brian Rogers of Izabella, and Autumn Sky. The musicians celebrated the new year by performing a selection of songs written in 2010. Naked Lounge Downtown is a live music venue located at Naked Coffee on 11th and H Street.  Click here for upcoming events. One Eyed Rhyno

Saturday night at Harlow’s saw the last performance of bassist Andrew Daniels with One Eyed Rhyno. Harlow’s on J Street was packed with fans, family and friends who came to say goodbye to Andrew and witness another great performance by One Eyed Rhyno (OER). I sat down with the trio for a short interview before the show began. After playing with OER since the 4th grade Andrew Daniels was leaving the group to attend college. September's Second Saturday

This month’s Second Saturday ended on a bad note. Although the details are not known, as of this writing, a shooting took the life of 24 year old Victor Hugo Perez Zavala. Second Saturday has grown in popularity these past few months and crowds have also increased. Over 10,000 people show up to shop, admire art, eat, drink, listen to local bands and socialize during the Second Saturday event. The Second Saturday venue gives local artists a chance to show off their art where otherwise they would not get such an opportunity. The Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) has released the 2010 schedule for the Friday Night Concerts in the Park. The free, outdoor concert series will rock Cesar Chavez Plaza (10th and J streets) every Friday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting May 7 though August 13. SN&R Honors Sacramento's Best Young Musicians at Eighth Annual Jammies

Friday marked the eighth annual Jammies Night of Contemporary Music at the Crest Theater on 1013 K St. The Jammies are a musical competition for high-school-aged musicians who are selected from the a Battle of the Bands concert series. This aligned with the Jammies Evening of Classical Music held Saturday at the Mondavi Center. Musicians from 11 acts ranging in age from 12 to 20 showcased their talent for a packed house at the Crest. From the hardcore metal of Carcerys Vale to the acoustic guitar solo of Julianna Zachariou, the youths put on a fantastic show that really shed light on the next generation of music coming from Sacramento.
