Farmers Market Fun and Friendly in Oak Park

Saturday was the second of many more Farmers Markets in Oak Park since it happens every Saturday through October 27, 2012. It's location is great at McClatchy Park. While shoppers bought and sellers talked, a 220 lb pig was roasting and a variety of interactive activities, including live music from local bands, activities for children (story-telling, face painting, art projects) were happening. Jubilee Farm hosted an annual Pig Roast, a fundraiser, to help suport local food and local farmers. Here's some photos of the roasting pig and more: Chef Brad put together a fantastic, local menu: Jubilee Farm Berkshire Pork including: Roasted Whole Pig Salt Roasted Pork Grilled Rack of Pork Roa

Pigapalooza farm fund-raiser, double food stamps and more at Oak Park Farmers Market

Opening day of the Oak Park Farmers Market is still three weeks away but the three-year-old market is already tempting me with at least three reasons to switch my farmers market shopping day from Sunday to Saturday starting May 5. Reason 1: Site improvements. The market site in McClatchy Park at 35th St. and 5th Ave. has been spruced up for its 2012 opening, with improvements like concrete walkways, granite paving for vendor stalls, landscaping, shade trees and benches. Reason 2: Dollar-for-dollar food stamp match. Market customers can use their EBT cards to purchase tokens that are redeemable for purchases from market vendors. Thanks to a contribution from Rabobank, the farm-friendly le

Article by Denise Coleman   Oak Park's Farmers' Market will continue throughout the summer every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 34th and Broadway across from Old Soul Coffeehouse . During yesterday's inaugural market there was aribbon cutting ceremony and live music as well as all the wonderful fresh produce of the season. The residents of the Oak Park community have been working for years to bring a farmers' market to this, at times, troubled neighborhood. Farmer's Markets Reopen for Summer Season

Fresh produce from Farmer's markets are a sweet taste of the Sacramento community, especially in the hot summer months. Farmer's markets are about to kick off the summer season with a colorful array of favorite fruits and vegetables, flowers and produce. Though flocks of people may arrive in shorts and skirts, by bicycle or walking under the city's famous trees, Sacramento farmer's markets supply local produce year-round. "It's because people are starting to buy more hand and mouth kind of fruit, like peaches," he said. "I think people who shop in the wint
