Local brew festival embraces quality over quantity

We live in fast times and everybody knows it; from the fast food that’s slowly killing us and speed dating, to the instant gratification the younger generations seek and even the older ones in their pursuit of eternal youth and instant “beauty,” via nips and tucks. If all this, “fast,” has you worn down, maybe it’s time to slow your roll and head over to the 14th Annual West Coast Brew Festival. The West Coast Brew Festival may be the largest such festival in Northern California outside of San Francisco, but its humble roots, born and grew from 350 attendees some 14 years ago, have slowly evolved into a must-attend experience event for any serious beer lover in Northern California. Why the West Coast Brew Festival is a local favorite

It's that time of year again; temperatures heat up, the Sacramento River gets busy, concerts kick into high gear and festivals abound. One of the more popular festivals in the region has been around since 2000, and has evolved into one of the biggest and most attended brew festivals in Sacramento. The first West Coast Brew Festival attracted only 350 attendees. Founder and producer, Matson Breaky, said that festival lost a lot of money, but he stayed on course and has seen it grow more and more every year. Last year, 2,000 people were admitted and the gates had to be shut as capacity was reached. Last year Raley Field announced that their brew festival was going to occur on the very same

La Raza Galería Posada to move to Miller Park

The 40-year-old La Raza Galería Posada Latino arts and culture center will leave its Midtown location next month, moving to a bigger facility in Miller Park that will allow for larger indoor and outdoor events. “We hope to have our inaugural event in early or mid June, and that will be a concert in Miller Park,” said Marie Acosta, executive director of La Raza Galería Posada. “It will also be an opportunity for us to introduce the public to the site and talk about building a new building or renovating the current building.” The building is an approximately 1,800-square-foot warehouse-style structure on Front street just south of Broadway. It is double the size of the center’s Midtown loc

For the love of beer: West Coast Brew Fest

About 3,000 people and 60 breweries will converge at Miller Park Saturday afternoon and stay until the kegs are tapped dry at the 12th annual West Coast Brew Fest. “The West Coast is the home of the micro-brew, and we have over 120 brews coming this weekend,” said co-founder Matson Breakey. “We seem to have a really great following of people that come out every year and are well-behaved and represent Sacramento and other places.” He added that in addition to the region, dedicated followers arrive from as far away as Arizona and Washington. The festival is set up as a “tokenless tasting” event, where beer enthusiasts pay admission to enter and then are handed a cup and set loose to choos

West Coast Brew Fest enlivens Miller Park

If you like beer, it’s Miller Time! Miller Park, to be exact.
