Forget about “America’s Got Talent” – the TV show filled with strange and questionable performances. Access Sacramento is hosting the first “Sacramento Has Talent” live show filled with legitimately talented local people, many young and on the rise. A comedian, spoken word artist, flutist, vocalist, bands and dancers will take the stage in a showcase of Sacramento’s performing artists at the Crest Theater on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. Show proceeds will benefit Access Sacramento’s youth correspondent program. The original Squeeze Inn on Power Inn Road was made famous by Food Network’s Guy Fieri, who raved about their infamous cheese “skirt,” the restaurant’s twist on the classic cheeseburger. Since then it has opened up restaurants in Roseville and Galt. Tuesday morning, the Squeeze Inn’s fourth location – at 1350 Harbor Blvd. in West Sacramento – officially opened its doors at 10 a.m. The newest addition to the Squeeze Inn line is the biggest location so far, seating up to 80 people, according to West Sacramento Squeeze Inn’s publicist, Heather Atherton. It was December, 1991, I was an eighth grader and I had just received my winter grades. My parents had promised to buy me a CD for every A I earned, so I was especially thrilled to see four of them on my report card. Four A’s. Four CDs. The first CDs I'd ever own. Read ’em and weep: Jesus Jones’ "Doubt," Nirvana’s "Nevermind," Boyz II Men’s, "Cooleyhighharmony" and Bell Biv Devoe’s "Poison." I can't explain away the Jesus Jones decision. Local television personality Mark S. Allen got his start in radio in the 80's on local station FM 102.5. He then went on to serve as producer/host of a segment called "Dateless and Desperate" on an Emmy award winning nationally syndicated teen show called "Scratch" '90-'94, and hosted "Short Attention Span Theater" '92-94 on Comedy Central (following John Stewart, and before Mark Marin). Danny Glover, Bobby Jackson, Mark S. Allen and Deon Taylor spent their Sunday spreading holiday cheer to families at the Country Club Plaza on Watt Avenue. They were among volunteers distributing holiday bags, complete with turkey and stuffing, to 500 single-parent families. Glover is familiar with Sacramento, having grown up in the Bay Area. The actor and activist said his parents always worked two jobs when he was growing up to provide for him and his brothers. "It feels good to hand out the meals," he said as he handed a turkey to another family. Glover has starred in over 40 movies.
