Tuesday morning's visit with Jeffrey Callison on KXJZ's "Insight" was full of some pretty good news, from the airport's new Terminal B being nearly ready to open, cars back on K Street and news of a proposed Firestone Public House to replace California Pizza Kitchen at 15th and L streets. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted down an ordinance to close all the cannabis dispensaries in the county. Now a group of cannabis dispensary owners and stakeholders are proposing working with the county to create an ordinance similar to the city's, which allows dispensaries but regulates them. There are estimated to be as many as 65 dispensaries operating in the county, in addition to the
Sacramento- Thank You for all the Outpouring of Support for The Boqueria and AuthentiCity over the last few months. Tuesday night’s 5-4 City Council vote was of course disappointing. All the partners of The Sacramento Alliance Team are heavily vested in the success of the Downtown Central Core and share Great Aspirations for The City of Sacramento. It will be good to have a project moving forward on the 700/800 Blocks of K Street as we support all positive K Street developments. D+S Development and David Taylor Interests have a track record of delivering quality developments to the City of Sacramento and we wish them all the best. Congratulations and Good Luck. Rubicon Partners St
Right on. Tuesday night's vote for the more balanced proposal for K Street redevelopment was very good news, and not just for those of us who supported the winning team. Our city moved decisively forward tonight, and congratulations are due to all who participated in the process, from city staff to city council, from members of the community who spoke at Tuesday's meeting to those who have participated in the many Conversations on the subject on The Sacramento Press. The Conversations here about the K Street process have been wonderfully civil, constructive, and deeply informative. The community cared about this issue, and engaged with each other on it. There was a sense that, no matter
In an upset vote, the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday chose two teams — one led by D & S Development, Inc. and CFY Development, Inc. and the other by Sacramento developer David Taylor — to revitalize two troubled blocks on K Street Mall. In a split vote of 5 to 4, the council agreed to enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement with the teams endorsed by a selection committee to redevelop the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street. The majority of council members opted not to follow the recommendation of Mayor Kevin Johnson's ad hoc committee to give the entire project to the Sacramento Alliance Team, led by Rubicon Partners, St. Anton Partners and Preferred Capital Advisors. "We need to
K Street. The very mention of this once-thriving street-turned-derelict-pedestrian mall sends people who’ve watched downtown’s progress, or lack thereof, into fits. Everyone has an opinion, an accusation, a conspiracy theory or a pet peeve about it. And everyone has got a cure-all, that one big project that will change EVERYTHING. Tuesday night, the City Council will meet to vote on which of the two teams of developers proposing projects for the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street should be given an exclusive right to negotiate. This is a big deal, with tens of millions of dollars in one case, or, in the other case, hundreds of millions of dollars involved. More important, it is a test of wh
The Sacramento City Council is set to vote Tuesday night on the developers who will tackle the blighted K Street Mall. The question before the council is whether to support the recommendation of Mayor Kevin Johnson's ad hoc committee to go with the biggest proposal, which has a "Boqueria" public market as its centerpiece, or to back two other proposals to redevelop the troubled 700 and 800 blocks of K Street on $40 million in city-owned land. Only one selection committee had been identified in the city's request for qualifications. Last month, that committee recommended the 700 block be redeveloped by D & S Development and CFY Development, with their Promenade on K project estimated at $
An ad hoc committee led by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson is backing the developers of the Citizen Hotel to redevelop the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street Mall with a huge public market as the centerpiece. The committee, made up of four City Council members - Steve Cohn, Rob Fong, Ray Tretheway and Johnson - is recommending that the Sacramento Alliance Team led by Rubicon Partners, St. Anton Partners and Preferred Capital Advisors be given the project to revamp city-owned property on those blocks, according to a city staff report released Thursday afternoon. The City Council is set to vote on the matter Tuesday. Last month, a special committee set up by the city recommended two other team
Disclaimer: This article is my opinion, given as a central city resident and board member of the Sacramento Old City Association. I am not an employee of any of the firms involved, nor the city of Sacramento. I am enthusiastic about this project because it represents the best combination of historic preservation, new development, downtown infill, fiscal responsibility, and promotion of local business, culture, and heritage. In December 2009, the city of Sacramento asked local developers for plans to revitalize the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street. The project area occupies about one city block, around 2.5 acres, on two half-block lots. Four teams submitted proposals, and a five-member commi
They brought Sacramento the Citizen Hotel and its restaurant, Grange. Now that same team is proposing an even more ambitious downtown project. Calling themselves the Sacramento Alliance Team, the partners behind the Citizen Hotel are seeking Sacramento City Council approval to redevelop the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street Mall. Two weeks before a council vote on the matter, they held an open meeting on the plan's centerpiece: a 35,000-square-foot public market, tentatively called the California Boqueria, that would showcase the state's food and wine at the corner of Eighth and K streets. Two of the partners, Rubicon Partners co-founder Kipp Blewett and Grange Executive Chef Michael Tuohy
On Monday, March 22, the city of Sacramento will host presentations by the four development groups interested in building a project on the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street. This meeting will be held at Old City Hall, 915 I Street, in the 2nd floor hearing room, at 5:30 PM. The four groups who responded to the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) include: * Bridge Housing, Saca Development and Bagatelos Development They propose 360 units of housing, a renovated Bel-Vue, 48,000 square feet of office not on Agency property, and 33,000 square feet of retail. * David Taylor, CIM Development, Domus, and Zeiden Properties They propose 110 housing units, including a renovated Bel-Vue, 60,000 square
