Kings get run over by reindeer in tough loss to Milwaukee

Please don’t kill the messenger. Yes, the story is one you’ve read before. One you’ve read way too often this hoops season. The Sacramento Kings carry a lead into the final quarter and suddenly the offense stops moving and the team seemingly forgets it’s true mission: Beating a team they should beat on the home floor. After a back and forth battle, the Kings give another game away as the offense stalls and the players look like they abruptly forget how to execute the essentials as they lose to the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 84-79 on Thursday night. This was the first game for the team after Coach Westphal decided to start Samuel Dalembert instead of DeMarcus Cousins after the “choke sign

The Curtain Rises - Fans Get First Look at New Kings

It all began just like any other training camp gathering. The players hit the floor to do some stretching, jogging and even doing the “monster walk” to get flexible and be ready to bang some bodies. It was a day like any other day this past week. Except this time, there was a major difference. The practice had been moved out of the Kings’ practice facility and over to Arco Arena. Oh, and one more thing. There were people watching – lots of people. The Sacramento Kings raised the curtain on their new-look team on Sunday for all to see for the first time since making some major acquisitions and building their team with draft picks in the off season. It was the first scrimmage held this y

Kings-Bucks trade in the works

First reported by Dave "Softy" Mahler of Sports Radio 950 KJR-Seattle, the Kings are on the verge of trading undersized power forward Jon Brockman to the Milwaukee Bucks. According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings would receive forward Darnell Jackson and a future second-round pick in return. Brockman, 23, was extended a qualifying offer by the Kings, but he never signed the offer, missing all of the Kings' summer league action in Las Vegas. He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers No. 36 overall and traded with Sergio Rodriguez to Sacramento. Brockman was one of the NBA's most efficient rebounders last season. At six-feet-seven-inches he grabbed an average of 4.1 re

Newest Kings arrive in Sacramento

At this time last year many were mourning the loss of Michael Jackson and Billy Mays as well as digesting the draft pick of Tyreke Evans. Before last year's draft, many fans had their eyes on Ricky Rubio, who has yet to play a minute with an NBA team. This year was different. Kings President of Basketball Operations had his eyes on the same player as most Kings fans. That man was Kentucky forward DeMarcus Cousins. “I think in DeMarcus, we got an exceptional talent at the center position. He’s going to get us great size and skill in that post,” said Petrie. “He’s an outstanding passer, and we’re just really excited to add him into the frontcourt we have now with Samuel, Carl and Jason,”

Evans Back, Kings Still Lack

Even with rookie guard Tyreke Evans back on the floor for the Sacramento Kings (24-51), they fell short to the Indiana Pacers (27-47), 102-95. Although the Kings started off hot, taking a 15 point lead in the first half, the pendulum swung towards the Pacers in the second. After being out 5 games with the concussion he suffered in Milwaukee, Tyreke Evans made it seem as though another triple-double was in the making. While only scoring four points in the first half, Evans grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 8 dimes. Jason Thompson was able to produce coming off the bench, leading the team in scoring with 14 points as well as 4 rebounds. The second half was a different story. While the K

Photo Essay: St. Patrick's Day in Sacramento

Sacramento usually sees large crowds on Second Saturday. But Wednesday, it looked more like Dublin as thousands of green-clad Sacramentans attended block parties, drank green beer and celebrated everything even remotely Irish. The following is a photo essay, depicting some of the Wednesday evening festivities. The first seven photos are from the de Vere's St. Patrick's Day Block Party. Outside the de Vere's St. Patrick's Day Block Party on L Street, this dog dressed for the occasion in a green sweater. The party drew thousands of people to the 1500s block of L Street. Kings mascot Slamson showed up to the block party on stilts and showed off his shamrock-covered blazer. He was a crowd p

Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans' best week yet

Without a doubt, this has been the best basketball Tyreke Evans has played in his rookie season for the Sacramento Kings The Kings’ 20-year-old guard has averaged 19 points, 8.75 rebounds, 7.75 assists and 0.75 steals per game since March 9.  Since then, the Kings have played the Portland Trail Blazers in Portland and home games against the Toronto Raptors, the Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. In that span the team has a 2-2 record. Evans posted 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and a steal in the 88-81 loss in Portland.  The Kings were within three points of the Blazers late in the game, but the experience of the Blazers overtook the Kings – the least-experienced team in the N

Kings have exceeded low expectations

Before the NBA season started, many experts predicted the Sacramento Kings would be near the bottom of the league after finishing with a 17-65 record last season. This prediction came before star guard Kevin Martin and last season's top bench scorer Francisco García went down with wrist injuries. Many also criticized the pick of rookie guard Tyreke Evans, citing that he was not the point guard that the Kings needed in a point guard-heavy draft. The Kings were bashed for hiring Paul Westphal as head coach, many critics saying that he hasn't coached an NBA game since 2000, when he coached the Seattle SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder). It was supposed to be the perfect recipe for

Kings and Suns look for answers to Arenas situation

The reaction to Washington Wizards Javaris Crittenton and Gilbert Arenas' involvement with guns in their locker room at the Verizon Center has been shock, surprise, amazement and an unending curiosity. Those were the feelings expressed before and after the Phoenix Suns' 113-109 victory over the Sacramento Kings at Arco Arena Tuesday night, before an announced crowd of 13,630. Many of the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns want to hear what really occurred on Dec. 21, when Arenas says he showed Crittenton three guns as "a joke" in response to a beef the pair had two nights earlier on and following a card game on a flight to Washington from Phoenix. Arenas has admitted having guns in the ar

Kings meet Sixers

Many good feelings linger as the Kings end their four-game home stand Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers at Arco Arena. Sacramento (14-16) lost the first two games in overtime and double overtime, respectively, to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the world champion Los Angeles Lakers. However, Sacramento's 106-101 victory against the Denver Nuggets Monday provides the opportunity for the Kings to split the four-game set with a 2-2 mark. The Kings have established themselves as a team that brings maximum effort nightly and will compete against whomever lines up against them. Lakers forward Lamar Odom expressed his feelings about the new Kings. "They've got all the components of a very

Kings snag the Nuggets

A little boy named Alex walked into the Kings locker room following Sacramento’s 106-101 victory Monday against the Denver Nuggets.  The youngster held a sign that read, “Santa said I could meet Mr. Jon Brockman.” Brockman, who had grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points, while helping the Kings use their brawn and aggression to earn the victory, said, “Alright. Now that’s a sign.” Brockman (aka Wildman) already introduced himself to the Northwest Division-leading Nuggets with his performance Wednesday to the Central Division-leading Cleveland Cavaliers and in double-overtime last Saturday to the defending world champion Los Angeles Lakers. Brockman, Andres Nocioni and Sergio Rodrig

Kings take another test

Each NBA game is a test.  Some teams test for greatness; others search for legitimacy.  The Kings take legitimacy test No. 2 tonight when they host the defending world champion Los Angeles Lakers at Arco Arena.  They lost their first test when they went up against Cleveland at home in the first of a four-game homestand. They now face the Lakers before meeting Denver on Monday and Philadelphia on Wednesday.  Tonight's game is another opportunity for the Kings (13-15) to show they can consistently compete with the league's best. Sacramento lost to the Cavs, but certainly showed the ability to go head-to-head with one of the league's best teams.  Christmas day, the Lakers got spanked 10

Kings shock Bulls after trailing by 35 points, win 102-98

The Sacramento Kings trailed by a score of 79-46 points to the Chicago Bulls in the third quarter, Monday night. Kings fans were most likely turning off their TVs and radios expecting the first blowout of the year. A sold out United Center was celebrating what was supposed to be a surefire Bulls win. The ending was the exact opposite. The Kings mounted an incredible 58-19 run in the final 21 minutes as the team completed a seemingly impossible comeback, defeating the Bulls 102-98. It was the biggest second-half comeback in NBA history and the second biggest comeback overall. The Utah Jazz had a 36-point comeback against the Denver Nuggets on Nov. 27, 1996. Kings rookie Evans among the best in the NBA

He’s one of the quietest players on the team, yet he’s a vocal leader on the basketball court. He’s only played 21 games in the NBA, yet he’s being treated like a star around the league. He’s only played point guard for less than a year, yet he’s performed well against the elite of that position. That player is Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans. Evans has become one of the best players in the NBA in a short amount of time and even the league’s superstars are taking notice of the rookie from the University of Memphis. “It feels cool knowing that I’m a threat,” Evans says about his presence in the NBA. “A lot of people doubted me, saying that I was not going to be a good player in the NB

We're A Hard Working Team

Kings fans, I’m really excited to get out in the community to “Paint the Town Purple” and get to know the people of Sacramento. It’s always special when you know people and they know you. It makes it more exciting for fans to come and watch someone they know on the court, someone they’ve met and someone they can relate to. It’s also fun playing in front of people you know, people you see at Raley’s or people around your neighborhood. My interactions with Kings fans so far have been awesome. They’ve welcomed all of us with open arms and have been very warm. I’ve only been here for three or four weeks now, but it does feel like my home. Sacramento is a great city and a great community. A royal occasion for the Sacramento Kings

Kings fans proudly received the three newest members of the team Saturday evening at Marshall Park. The park was a festive sight with families and fans clad in purple and white awaiting the arrival of University of Memphis guard Tyreke Evans, Israeli forward Omri Casspi and University of Washington forward Jon Brockman. The players were bestowed with numbered jerseys for the first time since the draft picks were announced. Evans wearing number 13, Casspi with number 18, and Brockman number 40. Season ticket holder Joseph Smith expressed his admiration for the Kings and the Maloof brothers for bringing the community and families together at such an event. "It keeps us going as a family,
