Do fiendish phantoms haunt the 1850s building at 114 J St. in Old Sacramento? According to rumors and legend: Yes. While none of the current tenants claim to have seen otherworldly beings, the stories persist. “This used to be a restaurant and bar, and the guy who owned it would go out front and barbecue, and his kids would run up to him saying, ‘Daddy, daddy, you have a customer,’ but when he went inside, no one was there,” said JoAnne Peterson, co-owner of Sacramento City Dry Goods. Another legend, according to Peterson, centers on the spirit of a girl who wanders one of the upper floors. “She’s very particular about you keeping things neat,” said Peterson, who emphasized that she d
A Sacramento teen is trying to get an early start on a film career with the launching of an Internet-based talk show. “Sci Fi Stories” is 16-year-old Joseph Cady’s show, which will cover all things paranormal and unexplained in Sacramento and beyond. Among his subjects: ghosts, UFOs, extraterrestrials, Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. “I wanted to do something out of the ordinary,” said Cady, whose father, Brian Cady, will be helping him produce the series. “It will be weekly on Sundays, and we’ll upload the videos to Youtube in the afternoon for people to watch.” Each program will be 20 or 30 minutes long, and sometimes will consist of sit-down interviews with local experts, while o
Spirits we brought with us, resident ghosts, and more. An interesting investigation was held by GOLD RUSH GHOSTS INTERNATIONAL PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS for the television show INVESTIGATING THE UNKNOWN on December 27th, 2009. We had been invited by the staff of the McCormack Williamson Winery to come and see what was going on, as strange things seemed to be happening in the building that they could not pin-point. As the Celebrities Psychic, I had been on a recent television investigation at this winery this last Halloween with KMAX GOOD DAY SACRAMENTO Channel 31. At that time I found the building to be rather interesting and exploratory in the true ghost/spirit sense. And so we jumped at
By The Celebrities Psychic NANCY BRADLEY The spirit sprinted in front of me, seemingly without a care in the world. She looked back at me several times, smiling, inviting me to follow. But on this day she did not want to go inside. As I went to open the door she disappeared, back into the yard, poof and gone. I guess the active young one was suddenly bored with me and had other interests to pursue. I hoped our time together was not over for this trip. She is a lovely child of about three years old and full of energy. She is gone in life but still hanging around. She lived here once, enjoys the garden. But then, who wouldn’t? The Glen Morey Country House was built in 1859, and today as a b
By The Celebrities Psychic NANCY BRADLEY Sometimes a building is not haunted itself; the artifacts it holds are. This is the fantastic case of the Discovery/History Museum in Old Town Sacramento, California, located on Ist Street in Old Sac. It was not too long ago that as the Celebrities Psychic I received a call from the Discovery Museum. They had been hearing strange noises. Employees talked of things being put one place and found in another. Most of the activity was happening upstairs they told me. One employee said “I saw a person upstairs at the old carriage. It was before we opened the doors for the day. The person was dressed in ‘old time’ clothes and I thought, well, they must ha
Old Town Sacramento, California, the states capitol, is an interesting place in any event, boasting old buildings and a history of underground tunnels and opium dens in the early day of the Gold Rush fever in California. This particular building, now called the Brickside Restaurant was recently explored for our television show, INVESTIGATING THE UNKNOWN WITH GOLD RUSH GHOSTS INTERNATIONAL PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS. The building has strange and uncanny stories to tell. Located at 106 J. Street in old town Sacramento, the place has its own interesting history as well, which of course, in itself, brings on more ghosts and spirits, as well as remnants of the same. Originally the structure was
By The Celebrities Psychic NANCY BRADLEY Disembodied voices in an empty room. Glasses clinking when no one is there. A few years ago, David Mintz, then owner/manager of Rivendell Books at 352 Main Street, Placerville, California, heart of the gold rush country, made an astonishing find. His store was haunted. What started as an ordinary day would prove fateful. This particular cloudy winter morning he stepped from his car as he always did, and walked the few steps to the front door of his business. It was there he crossed the threshold to the unknown. As he fumbled to put the key in the lock to open the store for the day, he heard voices. Startled, he carefully and silently removed the key
By The Celebrities Psychic NANCY BRADLEY “UNTIL ONE HAS LOVED AN ANIMAL, A PART OF ONE’S SOUL REMAINS UNAWAKENED” Anatole, French Novelist There is only one statue in all of New York City that does not need to be polished in spite of weather, bird droppings, dust, grime and elements, and that is the statue of BALTO. Balto is the beautiful Siberian husky sled dog that is immortalized as one of the 150 dogs that brought relief in the form of serum to the citizens of Nome, Alaska in 1925-26 from the horrible diphtheria epidemic killing the residents. And the reason the statue does not need continual polishing and cleaning is because residents and guests to the site pet the statu
THE EMPIRE THEATRE Gone, but Still There By The Celebrities Psychic NANCY BRADLEY It’s a quiet walk down Main Street in Placerville, California for you now. The town is situated in the heart of the gold rush country, surrounded by trees and hills, and the traffic had stopped in this old section when the stores closed for the night. It would be easy to feel very alone, the streets are deserted. Things seem somehow eerie. A strange, swirling patch of cold wind passes you on an otherwise unseasonably warm night in November. And then the unexplained sounds of strange yet seemingly ancient voices attract you to a building that once was a theatre. You look up at the marquis that was the billbo
Cathy Orange meets me at a very unusual spot. She tells me to meet her at Safeway, she has a story for me, plus she has to get her grocery shopping done. I follow Cathy Orange down the aisles, as she selects coffee, cheeses, variety of meats, bread, cucumbers, cereals and everything else that she can fit into her basket. She tells me that she was waiting for the light rail at 9pm on 12th Street between D and E Streets in Sacramento. This is known as Akalai Flats/La Valentina. While waiting, she was slapped in the face by an unknown force. She was startled from this experience. She tells me that this area of the light rail station is haunted. Now this is the 2nd time, I have heard a ligh
Today turned out to be a strange day. The day is January 10, 2009, Saturday. I went walking with my dogs Pika and HPI (Pronounced Hi-Pee) at Elk Grove Laguna Creek Wetlands. According to high school kids, the Wetlands is haunted. There is claim by these high school kids, that on one foggy night they saw a covered wagon drawn by two ghostly black horses near some Eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus trees were brought over by settlers from Australia. They were planted in clumps in certain areas, so that settlers can use the shade from these huge trees for cover. The three clumps in the Wetlands is where kids have said they have either seen ghostly figures in old Western outfits or have seen the gho
Ghost Girls Tales: Back to the Ione Hotel By Paul Dale Roberts, Ghost Girls Ghostwriter It’s going to be a long day. I have to be at Shannon McCabe’s home at 2:30pm and prepare for a full day of doing a Ghost Girl shoot and investigation. At Shannon’s home, waiting for me is Shannon & Natalee Black. Shan carefully drives us to the Ione Hotel where the shooting/investigation will be taking place. The reason why I say ‘carefully’ is because Shan just recently received a speeding ticket and she is not looking for another one. It was nice not to feel the G-Force that forces my face into her side window. As we arrived to the Ione Hotel, waiting for us were people that wanted readings from Nan
Ghosthunters Get Busy During Halloween By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI General Manager/Ghost Hunter/Ghostwriter It’s getting close to Halloween. People want to get scared. The date is October 21, 2008, Tuesday. The Stockton Record wants me to do an initial investigation at a legendary haunted home in Stockton. The home is located at N. Pershing Street. Waiting for me in this home are the lovely Christine Taylor, her brother and videographer. The owner Rick Freeman, his enchanting daughter Bobbie Lawson and her grandmother are also waiting. The owner gives me a briefing about this home that reminds me of a cross between a countryside cottage and a European castle. Legend has it, that it was bui
