The Humor Times has announced a somewhat stealth $5 discount for tickets to see the national-touring, musical/political comedy troupe, the Capitol Steps, tomorrow, Sunday, May 5th, at 6:30pm. The performance takes place in the Martinique Ballroom of the Clarion Inn, 1401 Arden Way, Sacramento, next to the Arden Fair Mall. The General Admission tickets are normally $35.00 in advance, $40.00 the day of the show. But the show's presenter, the Humor Times, announced on their website today a $5 discount for "readers of the Humor Times website." Early registration suggested since event will cap at 3,000 runners The 10th annual “Run Rocklin” will be held Sunday, April 7 at Johnson-Springview Park in Rocklin. Since 2004, Run Rocklin has provided a top-notch running event for Rocklin and the surrounding communities. The event has benefited the Matt Redding Foundation and Rocklin’s local schools since 2007. The annual Davis Jazz and Beat festival is a free intimate festival filled with poetry readings and painting improvisation set to the rhythm of live jazz. Hosted by the Cultural Action Committee, this is a unique opportunity for attendees to experience exclusive performances, a thorough collection of Beat art, and later meet firsthand with the world-renowned poets, jazz musicians, and painters of the Beat Generation. The Invasion of zombies in Old Sacramento was a huge success last night. Hundreds of people showed up buying wrist bands at Shenanigan’s on J Street. Proceeds went to support our local troops, veterans and those affiliated with the American Legion. The local kid band "Alive and Burning" played rocken tunes about Zombies at Shenanigan's .The zombie run started from Shenanigan’s and went to the K Street mall tunnel. In the tunnel, Photographers and videographers lined up taking pictures before the hoard of zombie came running past them to spill out onto the Old Sacramento Streets. All ages from young children, to older adults where dressed up and joined in the preparation of Halloween fun. T
What's a Newton Booth? A tiny building where you can buy cookies? Wrong. Newton Booth is a cool neighborhood in the lower right corner of midtown, and there are a bunch of artists who live and work there. On Saturday, October 6, from 11 am to 3 p.m. those artists are going to be making stuff, teaching stuff, showing their stuff, and, of course, selling stuff. Anybody who wants to visit the neighborhood that day will get an eyeful. Interested in welding? Gina Rossi will let us wander through while she's teaching a class. Take a stroll around Fremont Park this Labor Day weekend at the Chalk It Up! art festival, and you’ll find you don’t have to be a kid to appreciate the beauty – and fun – of drawing on the sidewalk with chalk. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the popular event featuring over 200 sidewalk paintings by local artists who use soft chalk pastel mixed with water. As the month of July comes to a close, so does the 21st season of the Friday Night Concerts in the Park. The city’s longest-running, outdoor music festival will come to a close on July 27th. The final concert will be headlined by local favorites The Brodys, who will bring their retro-pop sound to Cesar Chavez Plaza in their 15th Concerts in the Park appearance.
