None of the sell-out crowd which packed Sleep Train Arena on Wednesday night knew precisely what was ending. Was it simply the 2012-2013 season, which ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers? Yes, but was it also the very existence of the Sacramento Kings? Possibly. We’ll find out next month when the NBA Board of Governors makes their decision on whether the Kings are sold to an investment group that intends to build a new arena and breathe life into the franchise, or whether the team is sold to a different group who intend to move the team to Seattle, Wash.; kill the franchise; and resurrect the Seattle SuperSonics. The loss itself, 112-108, was relatively easy to take. The game w
One would think, in a game billed as the “Throwdown Showdown,” a battle between a couple of the game’s best dunkers in Donte Greene and DeMarcus Cousins for the Kings and DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin for the visiting Clippers, that there would be a ton of action at the rim. Not the case, as Sacramento’s front line did a solid job of protecting the paint against the bigs from Los Angeles. Unfortunately, it was the guards of the Clippers who did the damage in the key on various drives to the basket by Chris Paul, Randy Foye, Nick Young and Eric Bledsoe. Each of them scored in double figures and constantly pushed the ball into the lane as the Kings lost 93-85 Thursday evening at Power B
Playing against the “Lob City” crew and an arsenal of good long-range shooters, the Kings’ task at hand, on this Thursday night, was a tough one. Add in Kenyon Martin, who just made it back from China, and the Clippers are finally a legitimate contending team in this shortened season. With that said, the Sacramento Kings hung tough until a bad stretch in the fourth quarter that was initiated by some — as the venerable Bill Walton would say, “horrible” — calls and non-calls by the officials. In the end, the Kings fell too far back late in the game to mount a comeback and lost to the visiting Los Angeles Clippers 108-100. After the Kings got out to a early 6-0 lead on shots from DeMarcus
It’s an enjoyable new tradition: on every February 28 during this decade (yes...both of them), the Sacramento Kings beat the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2010, it was by 97-92, while this time around, the final score was 105-99. The event could well be called “Double Throwback Night,” or maybe “The Throwest Back Night Ever.” On one hand, it was Throwback Jersey Night, as the Kings wore uniforms honoring their previous incarnation as the Royals (Rochester Royals, and then Cincinnati Kansas City Royals). More important to the outcome of the game, if not the fate of the franchise itself, it also became Throwback Fan Night. Arco Arena was filled to the brim, just like in the old days, when lovin
For the first time in a long time Tyreke Evans looked like the player who won the Rookie of the Year award last season when he scored a season-high 32 points against the visiting Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, including hitting three of his six three-point shots. The outcome of the game, however, was decided by a missed free throw from Evans that would have sent the game to overtime but instead gave the Clippers a 100-99 victory, sending the Sacramento Kings to their eighth consecutive loss. The Kings battled back from a 13-point deficit over the first three quarters to tie the score at 76 going into the fourth quarter, and the drama played out over the final two minutes, which in
While the Sacramento Kings and their fans sit at home and observe the NBA Playoffs within the confines of their living room, there is something Kings Fans can look forward to while the teams remaining fight for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. What Kings Fans can look forward to, is the upcoming NBA Draft on June 24. Before the Sacramento Kings decide on who they will be selecting next month, they must first know which slot they will be picking from. Last year the Kings had the highest odds of winning the top overall pick, and having the opportunity to land Blake Griffin, who was touted as the top prospect coming out of college. But as you all know, the Kings did not win the lottery and ended u
The Kings currently have a 25-54 record and had won their first game since March 21 last night at Arco. At first you would think this is a negative – which for the present it is, and nobody likes for their team to lose – but if you are looking at the future, this should be seen as a positive. Last month was a great time for Kings fans and basketball fans alike. We were able to watch the NCAA tournament. If you watched enough games, you would have been able to see that there are two great prospects coming out. The consensus is that John Wall of Kentucky and Evan Turner of Ohio State are two difference makers who will be leaving college and entering the 2010 draft. If you are unaware of
