Free Medication Adherence Workshop and Health Fair

Many senior citizens spend what should be their golden years dealing with complications from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, when in fact, many of these could be avoided by taking medication as directed. Medication adherence is one of the most critical health issues facing our nation. Even though 45 percent of Americans have one or more chronic conditions that require medication, one in three people never fill their prescriptions and three out of four don’t take their medications as directed, costing Americans $290 billion each year. According to sources provided by the California Diabetes Program, those 65 and older are more than twice as likely to have diabetes as younger American

Red Dress Party for AIDS/HIV awareness

Who hasn't ever worn a red dress out on the town? Uhhhh……..men? Why red? (You were thinking why would men be wearing a dress in the first place, perhaps?) That all changed Saturday night with Sacramento's first annual Red Dress Party. Men, as well as women, wore red dresses to a fundraiser/party at Badlands. The red ribbon worn on the lapel of people around the world, is commonly accepted as the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness. The Red Dress Party builds on that symbol of red. Over the last decade to raise awareness and funds to support organizations engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and care, Seattle and Portland have held sell-out events, requiring everyone, no m

Roz Savage sets example for world-changers

Roz Savage is the type of person who, when her mind is made up, does things 110 percent. Nearly 400 people listened intently as Savage shared her remarkable story at Sacramento State’s University Union Ballroom Thursday night. About 10 years ago, Savage penned two versions of her own obituary – one that she hoped for and the other realistically depicting what she was heading for. She said she realized her life was drifting off course and toward a legacy that would leave her unfulfilled. Gradually, Savage began to let go of what she referred to as her security blankets. She moved out of her home in London, quit her job as an office worker and claimed that she began to find “happiness in w
