Early morning pursuit of a stolen vehicle ends in a light pole.

If you live in the South Sac, Freeport, South Land Park or Greenhaven areas and heard a whole lot of sirens early Sunday morning, that was our local police and sheriff chasing a stolen vehicle.

The suspect lead law enforcement officers on a tour of the South Area at speeds reaching 60 mph. While you may think that this is putting the community at risk, what you don't hear behind the scenes are the officers constantly calling in direction, speeds and amount of traffic.

During pursuits as this, several law enforcement units will be engaged in the chase. The second unit "calls the chase" while a watch commander or official monitors the situation for safety. During most of this chase the streets were clear and when there was some traffic, the helicopter was over top calling in traffic ahead and potential cross traffic situations.

This chase came to an end when the driver lost control and wrapped the vehicle around a light pole in the 600 block of Florin Rd. As a precaution, the driver was placed in spinal precautions and transported to the hospital in custody.
