Dogs in costume and their people companions are invited to a Howl’o’ween event presented by the Citrus Heights Community Marching Band.

The Oct. 27 event will feature a pet fair and a canine costume contest with prizes for the cutest, funniest, scariest, ugliest and most original dog costumes. Prizes include a Spoiled Spa Package (for dogs) from Trends-n-Treats and free dog physical exams from Summer Hills and Hazel Ridge veterinarians.

The Citrus Heights K9 team will be on paw to demonstrate their police skills, and the marching band will give a free musical performance.

Award-winning Citrus Heights Community Marching Band has 70 performing members, from kids to seniors. Members volunteer their time to perform at parades, events and field show competitions in the Sacramento area. Band members are awaiting the results of their application to participate in the New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Southern California.

The band is supported by Hearts for Parks, Sunrise Recreation & Park District, the City of Citrus Heights, private donations and fundraising events.

Howl’o’ween will be held at Rusch Park, 7801 Auburn Blvd., in Citrus Heights from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., rain or shine. The event is free and the first 300 dogs will receive treat bags from Trends-n-Treats. The entry fee for the dog costume contest is $5. Vendor booths are available for $25. For more information, call Kathy Cook at 916-725-0198.

All event proceeds will support the Citrus Heights Community Marching Band.

Disclosure: Nancy is a member of the marching band.
