Beginning on Thursday, October 18th, the Fusion International Art Center will host the youth-oriented play, Blood Kiss, which over the last several years has developed a cult following. The genre of this play has been described as "B Horror Movie, meets live stage!" This play is the perfect lead-in to the Halloween season. Blood Kiss brings the audience up close and personal to chills, thrills and comedy way beyond your usual haunted house excursion.
The Fusion International Art Center is located at 501 Arden Way, Sacramento. The play runs from Thursday, October 18th, showtime at 8:00 pm; through Wednesday, October 31st, showtimes at 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Blood Kiss was written by Tyler Bryant. This original script has been produced several times and has become a cult following in other states. This is the first time it has been produced here in Sacramento.
The feel of the script and the acting technique is that of a "B Horror movie". There are one-line groaners, as well as plot twists and turns – some that you will predict and some you cannot. This play will take you back to when you were a little kid and watched, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," for the first time. But be forewarned. This is live theater; the scary stuff becomes all the more real. You can sense the evil presence of the villain; you can almost smell the blood. Caution: If you sit in the first two rows in, "The Blood Zone," you will be able to feel the blood!
The setting is a mansion secluded away from any other houses on the coast of Maine. The plot begins with a select number of online gaming players being invited to the mansion for a weekend of Beta testing. They are tasked to find ways to make the game come alive. They soon discover that the game becomes all too authentic. And one by one, players begin to die -- for real. They find that this home is actually a vampires den. The players are forced into playing a game of cat and mouse to survive. Danger lurks at every turn. They also find that the game, itself placed them there to be destroyed, to be absorbed into the dead space. They don't know who or what to trust. If it all sounds confusing, well – just ask any gamer. They can explain it all to you.
Gayliene Omary is the producer and director of the Sacramento production. She comes to Sacramento via Utah. She has been in the theatre world since she caught the acting bug in Middle School. Omary trained at Southern Utah State University, home of the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, as well as American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Live theatre is her passion and is so thrilled to be able to produce such a fun play here in Sacramento. Her approach is that of an actress and how the play reads to the audience.
"I took great pains to find a great cast of actors,” said Omary. “They became instant friends and you can feel a great chemistry on stage. We have several actors from California State University, Sacramento. One cast member comes all the way from Auburn, where he owns and runs a book store. We have a local high school student from NP3 Charter School and a local actress that has been in many productions throughout the area. Jodi Jones is assistant director and she has many years of performing experience. She is new to the Sacramento theatre scene as well and is pleased to be able to leave her 6 children at home and come and play in the theatre with big kids.”
Other show dates and times are October 19; and Saturday, October 20. Thursday October 25; Friday October 26 and Saturday October 27 Thursday show is at 8:00 pm. There are two shows on Friday and Saturday. Show times are 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Blood Kiss will also run Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th with show times at 8:00 pm, and two shows on the Wednesday the 31st at 8:00pm and 11:00 pm.
