Almost a year ago I wrote about a new web series I was producing locally called "Diary of a Dead Man." We assembled a creative team around us here in Sacramento and the series was shot predominately in the downtown area.

The series was set for a monthly shooting schedule so we could release one episode per month. There was no money for the budget, really, and it was through the sheer will and dedication of all those involved that we were able to bring the initial idea to life; an idea born out of a production meeting on another project as a few of us sat around a table at Shenanigans on J Street.

The production released two episodes before the conflicting schedules and time constraints of attempting the ambitious schedule forced us to reconsider the goals of our new production company, Zombie House Pictures, in terms of other projects that we were considering and the impact on them in continuing the production of the web series.

Ultimately we decided to pull the plug half way through production of the 3rd episode. It was still a tough decision to make but everyone involved understood and was gracious in us having to make that call.

But, as time passed, we kept talking about the possibility of releasing a short film version of the series. There were some things that the director Josh Pierson, and myself, wanted to do a little differently in the two released episodes. Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say, and fortunately for us we were in the position of being able to take advantage of that hindsight and do something about it.

We set about recutting the footage from the first two episodes, added in some of the footage from the unreleased 3rd episode, and decided to shoot some new footage for the opening sequence and a scene that we mixed in in various places throughout the short film version.

It was a fun experience, from beginning to end, and everyone who put in their best to make it happen can be very proud of what we accomplished with what we had available to us.

This short film version is for all of those who helped bring the project from that first discussion all the way through to the end.

You can watch "Diary of a Dead Man: The Movie" at the link below. We hope you enjoy the hard work of all of those involved. We also thank the business that helped us make it a reality by offering up their establishments as locations, such as Shenanigans on J, Zen Sushi, and La Bonne Soupe Cafe.

Disclosure: Geoff Foley is a founder of Zombie House Pictures and is also one of the producers of the web series Diary of a Dead Man.
