The space shuttle Endeavour flew over Sacramento at about 9:45 a.m. Friday piggybacked on a modified Boeng 747 on its last flight before becoming a museum piece.
Here are some photos of the shuttle as it flew over Sacramento. Other nearby places it was spotted include Stockton and Fresno.
It took off from LAX Airport in Los Angeles, and after Sacramento, reports said it was headed to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Sacramentans came out in droves to see the historic event, with the rooftops of parking garages, office buildings and residences crowded with people. Here are a few photos and videos shared with us by locals who saw the shuttle on its last mission:

My friend Nick took some good ones.
I gotta tell ya though, this was an incredible day for me personnally; I've witnessed the Space Shuttle program come full circle now. I was fortunate to be in the VIP area at Edwards Airforce Base when I was in junior high school to see the first Shuttle (Columbia) land. The excitement at Ewards that day was so palpable. Today, I got to witness the Shuttle fly by on its final transport flight and from the top of the parking garage at N and 27th, I felt like I could almost reach up and touch the underbelly of the plane.... it was so awesome.
