Costumed canines are set to take over McKinley Park from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday for the fourth annual Pups in the Park costume contest and parade.

The Kyle Rowland Duo will provide musical entertainment as dogs and their best friends wander about the park, visiting vendor booths, spiffing up for photos in the Pup Photo Booth and, of course, parade in their costumes.

One of the canine celebrities in attendance will be Bodie, the Sacramento Police Department dog who was shot on duty earlier this year.

Prizes will be awarded for best costume, best Lady Gaga impersonator and best dog/owner lookalike duo. Co-workers or friends or families can enter as teams, dressing their dogs to represent what they do – maybe rainbow wigs and red noses if your family works as clowns for the circus.

Entering a dog costs $25, and entry without a pooch is $5. If you're looking to pick up a pup, on-site pet adoptions will also be available.

Proceeds raise funds for homeless animals in the area, and working together on the event are the SPCA, Youth Development Network, VIBE Foundation and Front Street Animal Shelter. Part of the proceeds will also benefit the Friends of McKinley Park Tennis.
