New signage over 5th St downtown Sacramento (Image by: Kati Garner) In case anyone  has missed the news, the words "Downtown Plaza" no longer have Westfield in front of them. The shopping center was purchased for $22 million on Wednesday JMA Ventures, a San Francisco investment firm.

Two days after the sale my camera and I did a tour of the plaza to see what was happening. The most apparent activity was changing the signage.

Here are some images: Workers at the K St. entrance ready the letters to install above the plaza's entrance. (Image by: Kati Garner) A worker applies a chemical to the screen that will hold the signage. Maybe the second best news was that Wednesday morning, the day after the announcement of the closing, the red westfield trays in the food court had been changed out to blue. Why good? While a small change It shows an amazing attention to detail...good news for Sacramento.

In other news at the Downtown Plaza, lenders have foreclosed on the building housing Macy's men's and furniture store at 600 K St., though the store remains open and will continue to operate as usual for now, according to people working in the store.

I think we will be pleasantly surprised in the long run based on the activity that is happening at the site so soon after purchase!

They have been painting the mall for the last year in anticipation of selling it. This is nothing to get excited about.

I would not expect any other reaction from you trapper. ALL of your postings are negative. This is a good thing. In my opinion Westfield made the mall uglier over the years with their so-called improvements- tacky kiddleland and vending machines, babypoo color scheme, AstroTurf, spiky planters that threaten to stab you it you got too close, flowers in the fountains instead of water, and the list could go on. Not to mention that the paint was peeling and bird poop was pilling up. it was as almost as if wanted the mall to fail. It's way too early to tell how the change of ownership will help but just getting that ugly Westfield logo down makes me feel better about the place.

What does Mark know about the mall? Not much but he sure like to say alot. I listed two facts about the current state of the mall, when real plans are layed out and work is underway then there will be something to talk about.

Mark's excited about another coat of paint?

Well it sounds like he knows more than you do considering he was able to list several things besides paint. I don't think he said he was excited about a coat of paint- that's your issue. Besides you only cut & pasted a statement made by someone else regarding the foreclosure. How is that listing two facts? As for the foreclosure, it won't mean demise of the mall if that's what you are hoping for. I'm just wondering what you expect the new owners to do in the first couple of weeks.

I guess I just don't understand why you are complaining, apart from that's what your gang does best. The rest of us see this as a positive thing.

trapper are you critical of people who are excited about the Westfield sign coming down? Sorry if this offends you but many of us have been waiting for this for years.

I'm really surprised that they started making changes so quickly.

At a time when we're constantly hearing about red tape, ordinances and fees keeping businesses stagnant (or shutting them down) I would have to say that a sign coming down and new trays in the food court is definitely a breath of fresh air.

Very excited to watch this project develop!

Give the city a chance... I am sure they are working very diligently on all the roadblocks they can put in the new owners way... after all KJ is still pining for cars (I guess he really likes the odor of car exhaust fumes)...

What's wrong with the SacPress Casey Kirk? Does this publication usually delete comments from people debunking unfound statements against them? Both Mark and JWS make false claims about me and the press won't let me debunk their uneducated statement? Ever since David Watts Barton left, the SacPress has lost its edge and backbone.

Thanks for your feedback, trapper. The reason your comment has removed was outlined in the email sent to you.

If there is a specific comment that you believe should be removed because it does not meet our guidelines, we would be happy to review it.

Additionally, to clarify, David Watts Barton never had any role in comment removal. Are you referring to the content on the site?

Westfield has been horrible, I had not realized they hired the Maloofs to run the DT plaza the past decade.

You know what WOULD help the mall? Fewer hipsters arguing about if the new owners will do good or not and more hipsters shopping there.

The main thing I noticed at the mall Friday night when I went to see a movie is that it was virtually impossible to get up to the movie theater because of all the non-operational elevators and escalators. As one of your pictures shows, the main escalator going up was not working, nor was one of the lower ones, and the elevator was also out of service. I enjoy going to this mall for movies because of easy parking but do occasionally go with disabled people who need an elevator. I hope the changes they are making will improve these aspects, the elevator has been out of service there more times than I can count.
