Last night was a tad hot yet Crocker partiers came to Art Mix: Fired Up Mix, ate, thanks to SactoMoFo food trucks Drewski's Hot Rod Kitchen, Krush Burger, and VolksWaffle, did art in various forms and some of us had the mighty fine peach daiquiris.

All while listening to DJ Missy Mark's music to "Crocker" by!

Some went on a docent-led tour of ceramics in the art galleries.

Sadly, stilt-walking plate spinner Scott Barber was absent due to a car accident, someone told me.

Lots of art was made:

The clay and tiles were there thanks to Brian Tanner's business Alpha Fired Arts.

One of the art pros. (Image by: Kati Garner) High tech art, Digital Glaze (below), caught a lot of people's attention. Using Microsoft's Kinect, UC Davis Design students, in one month's time, had this ready for use last night.

According to Ashish Subedy, the Kinect detects people in front of it and when people make movements, they can retrieve information about where people's body parts are and plot them on the screen accordingly.

"Some examples of these parts are right foot, right ankle, right hand and right shoulder," he said. "Since we can get information regarding their hand location, when users raise their hands to grab a brush, the brush gets selected and they can begin drawing."

Subedy said he and other students did this as a class project, so it was very educational. However, they also focused on art/entertainment. So, he said, it serves an educational and an art/entertainment purpose. Through people's movements different colors and designs show on a monitor. (Image by: Kati Garner)

Plate spinning was a challenge for some and not for others! Image by: Kati Garner Image by: Kati Garner DJ Missy Mark and assisant set the music mood.
