Today, the City of Sacramento City Manager John F. Shirey announced the appointment of Dave Brent as the Department of Utilities Director. “Dave has great experience and in-depth knowledge of the day-to-day operations of this important department,” said Shirey, in making the announcement. “He stepped up nearly a year ago as the Interim Director to provide steady, trustworthy leadership at a critical time for the Department and has proven he is the right person for the job,” Shirey continued.
With a staff of 505 full-time employees, the Department of Utilities provides water, sewer and drainage services to Sacramento. The Department also serves as Sacramento’s floodplain manager, working closely with the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to help ensure compliance with floodplain management regulations, encourage adequate investment in levee systems and educate the community regarding its flood risk and the importance of flood insurance.
In addition, the Department has recently launched a $150 million rehabilitation of the Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant and is working towards completion of the City’s $400 million water meter installation and backyard main relocation programs.
Dave has been with the City Utilities Department for 21 years, serving in a variety of positions beginning as the City’s Stormwater Program manager.
