Launch 2012 is officially under way, and Tuesday July 24, day two,  features an avant-garde performance at Bows and Arrows and live music at Dive Bar.

For an $8 admission fee, the audience at Bows and Arrows will be treated to a series of short silent national and international films accompanied by live music from local musicians. The Sacramento film group The Capitol Indie Collective selected scenes from five films to be featured: “The House of Usher”, “The Joy of Life”, “The Tantalizing Fly”, “Neighbors” and one “wild card” surprise film. The musicians include Ross Hammond, DD Walker, Gentlemen Surfer and MC Ham. Each band was assigned a specific film to score and will play that music live while the film is screening.  The show starts at 7 p.m. Bows and Arrows is located at 1815 19th St. in Midtown.

But, if you’re looking for one of the many free events Launch has to offer, Dive Bar,  at 1016 K St. is where it’s at starting at 9 p.m. Launch is partnering with Le Twist Tuesdays to bring an eclectic of music by DJ Sam I Jam, DJ Adam J, DJ Taylor Cho and DJ Roger Carpio. The audience will also be treated to a special guest performance by electronic music artist Jimmy Tamborello, a.k.a. Dntel,  who is known for his work with the groups Figurine and The Postal Service.

The weeklong festival kicked off Monday with a design showcase by Model Citizens NYC at Hot Italian in downtown Sacramento. The showcase included everything from jewelry and furniture to pillowcases and plant necklaces as unique as the independent artists being represented.
