Sweet Dreams Luau 2012

The Second Annual Sweet Dreams Luau was well organized and attended by the Sacramento community. The event took place at the Carriage House Gardens in Citrus Heights on June 23.
Sweet Dreams is a local non-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of life for children diagnosed with a life threatening disease by creating a “dream room” for a selected child.

The event was attended by supporters of Sweet Dreams. Along with past "dream room" recipients, family and friends the event helped all enjoy the Luau celebration.
DJ services were provided by Lakeside Sounds and live music was provided by Amy and Jimmy Bagshaw.

Sponsorship packages were sold for the event and most seats were sold. A goal of $20,000 was set for the event. A silent and live auction was also conducted to help in the fundraiser.

An elegant table was set up for guests to enjoy delicious appetizers. Next to the table was a section for guests to enjoy a back massage.

Fine wine and beer was sold and kids enjoyed soft drinks and other goodies.
The Sweet Dreams team who put in months of work in preparing for the event was able to witness the love and support of the community for their efforts.

A buffet style dinner was made available for guests as they continued to bid on the silent auction and enjoyed the company of other supporters.

Fun entertainment was also part of the evening. Dancers dressed in hula outfits provided entertainment as guests enjoyed dinner. Guests were able to enjoy the dances as they ate and soon after several guests were asked to participate in hula dancing.

Jenna Elkington, a poi dancer, also entertained as guests finished their dinner and started on their dessert.

Jimmy and Amy Bagshaw wrote and performed a heart-felt song written for Sweet Dreams. The Bagshaws touching lyrics filled the heart and eyes with emotion.

Obsidian Butterfly one of the premier fire dancer groups around awed the audience as they performed. As darkness came a magical and spontaneous fire dance performance kept the audience at the edge of their seats as they marveled over the show.
Obsidian Butterfly’s owner, Sequoia brought other dances to perform with her. Obsidian Butterfly performs throughout Sacramento and also hold an annual fire showing. Obsidian Butterfly will hold their 5th Annual Fire Spectacular; The Vision Quest on Saturday, August 11 at the Land Park Amphitheatre.

The 2012 Sweet Dreams Luau, besides being well organized, demonstrated the support of our Sacramento community.
The event was held to help create a dream room for two current applicants. Malena is a 6-year-old who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and soon to be 8-years-old Virginia who was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia.

Both bright and delightful little girls were at the event enjoying the company of family and friends. Sweet Dreams hopes to raise enough money to give both girls their dream room.
Over the past few years Sweet Dreams has created five dream rooms for children.
Each child’s room required different designs and met individual needs.
Past recipients are; Braycen diagnosed with Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome, Claire diagnosed with hypo plastic left heart syndrome, Aimee continues to battle Xeroderma Pigmentosa (XP) and Jackson who was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Although not all kids were able to show for the event they’re all wonderful kids who bring life wherever they are.
Their parent’s tenacious support is an encouragement to those around them. The positive attitude these parents project is an inspiration to us all.
As the Sweet Dreams community continues to grow they continue to give back to the community when they can. Jennifer Richards and Sweet Dreams continue to seek community support to help make dream rooms become reality.
