Lane changes will initiate on N street as of November 13th. It has already begun the process of turning into a two way street, from the one way street it currently is. It's part of a larger project converting several one way streets in Midtown to two way streets. The City of Sacramento, on their website, states that there will always be one lane of traffic available on these streets, but I must admit I will be sad to see my street change its status. I asked them if they were expecting a dip in business, since vehicles traveling into town would have easier access to the American Market versus Fremont Market. They both smiled, pointed outside to the 24th Street parking spaces. "We have parking, they don't" So in short, no. I use N Street everyday, so my plan is to watch for small changes and base my opinion on what I encounter. I imagine it could not be too terrible. Jon Q. This project would not close any streets or re-route traffic, and it will make it easier for you to give directions because N will be a two way street in that area. When there are traffic blockages, the more alternative routes the better. Traffic speeds will be reduced, but it is a residential neighborhood after-all. No lanes will be taken out and there will be more alternative routes Both Geoff and I live in the neighborhood, and we don't agree about the change. But we can agree that traffic on N street is not heavy; it is nothing like L or J. Oh, and there will be no half street closures on this side of midtown. Those closures were requested and approved by those neighborhoods for specific traffic problems. By bike or by car, it's much easier and safer to get around. I really hope the city leaves P and Q streets alone. Keep an eye on N street, I'm predicting major back ups at 21st and 24 street. And N converting will help my commute. In general, conversions like these slow traffic in residential areas and allow more alternative routes.
