Updated June election results from the Sacramento City Council races show that both the District 4 and District 2 races are still very tight, making every vote more valuable to the candidates as November nears. Although the primary occurred June 5, the county has still been processing and certifying precinct reports.

Here is the break down for District 4:

STEVE HANSEN . . . . . . . . .    3,454      28.39 %
JOSEPH YEE . . . . . . . . . .       3,379      27.77 %
PHYLLIS A. NEWTON. . . . . . . 2,758      22.67 %
TERRY SCHANZ . . . . . . . . .    1,782     14.65 %
MICHAEL DANIEL REHM . . . . .  294       2.42 %
DAVID A. TURTURICI . . . . . . .    254       2.09 %
NEIL DAVIDSON . . . . . . . . .        224       1.84 %
(other/write in)                                  7          .12 %

The latest vote count in District 4 shows Steve Hansen’s lead increased slightly to 75 votes ahead of Joseph Yee – but it may be challenging for Hansen to maintain such a slim lead.

In the primary race, Yee was the top vote-getter among six candidates from Land Park, which is widely known to be a strong voting block in District 4, making the race more challenging for Hansen, whose support in the primary came largely from his Midtown and downtown base.

Here is the break down for District 2:

ROB KERTH . . . . . . . . .    2,133    35.08 %
ALLEN WARREN . . . . . .   2,004    32.96 %
MISTY YAJ . . . . . . . . . .        685    11.27 %
JASON L. SAMPLE . . . . . .   502     8.26 %
KIM MACK. . . . . . . . . . .       382     6.28 %
SONDRA BETANCOURT. .   367     6.04 %
(other/write in)                         22        .18 %

The updated vote count from the District 2 council race gives Rob Kerth 2,133 votes to Allen Warren’s 2,004 – bumping Kerth’s lead from 97 to 129 votes.

Out of the 6,073 votes cast in the District 2 race in June, Kerth and Warren together received 4,137, meaning there are a lot of votes up for grabs between now and November.
